Hello everybody! I am new here, I found you by accident, and I was surprised to read what I was thinking. Usually nobody posts what they really think, it was refreshing. I have a couple of questions, why the Royal family of Spain didn't go to the wedding and why the obama's neither? Welcome! The royal family of Spain did not attend because PA insulted them by not attending a wedding in their family when he could have attended. He also did not invite the Greek Royals who are related to Queen Sofia. I can't recall which wedding it was, but I believe it was last year. Perhaps you know which wedding this might be? But it is known that the Spanish royals are more than miffed at his behavior. Plus they are devote Catholics. JMO

Welcome bobolin! Funny to read how you found Royal Opinions! I had the same impression when I found Royal Dish - just by accident like you RO: - it was the fist forum I EVER registered as member - and when it temporary closed the Monaco section and the content of so many people's research and time and effort disappeared I was really sad and upset - that's why I stopped posting there even when it was re-opened - when MyaDia opened Royal Opinions this was like a Birthday present and I truly enjoy posting here and reading you all - but thanks to RD I'm here on RO Happy posting to you and again: welcome

welcome bobolin
i wondered too if obama was invited but i never read one way or another (i know they weren't invited to WillKats). it's a good thing he didn't go, with things so bad being seen at this over the top 100 million (i'm counting the PR $$ before the wedding too) $$ wedding would be fodder for faux news
JMO but i agree i think the spanish royal family had too much class to attend the street corner circus. saved themselves the humiliation of having to go down that red carpet like an award show, to a spattering of applause and all the tackiness that went with that.

Obama was invited. He chose not to attend. Instead his Ambassador to Monaco attended. I made a complaint to the White House when Albert's people insinuated that the President would go.
The Spanish royals were offended (and therefore the Greeks) by the invitation of a pretender to the throne of France (de Bourbon is also the Spanish royal family). The Monacos invited him by a title held by the Spanish royals and therefore offended both families.

According to this article, Steven Spielberg was a guest at the farcical wedding. Funny, no one in the media mentioned him being there. Albert and Charlene's attempt to gather big names to attend hoping to garner attention.
A berry close encounter of the Hollywood kind By Pat Flynn and Allison Bray Monday August 08 2011
IT WAS a close encounter of an extraordinary kind when Hollywood director Steven Spielberg delighted the owners of a tearoom with a special pilgrimage to sample their cheesecake en route to the recent royal wedding in Monaco.
The billionaire movie mogul drove 65km to An Fear Gorta (tea and garden rooms) in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare, after landing atShannon Airport in his private jet from New York.
He had only a few hours before he was due to jet off to Monaco to attend the wedding last month of Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock.
But that didn't stop him returning to the tearoom with his family after having visited the area previously in 2009. ...
The rest of the article is about Spielberg's interest in the tearoom

I am still getting around to posting some older wedding related articles. I remembered reading in the wedding threads discussion that Lynn Wyatt did not attend, however, Lynn did attend the wedding. She was Albert's special guests for all the events during the three days). I downloaded a lot of guests photos and eventually I will post them in the wedding threads. Here's a Houston socialite article describing Lynn'e summer adventure, including the Monaco wedding. Here's a photo that I found of Lynn at the wedding.
PARTYING LIKE A ROCK STAR
How Lynn Wyatt spent her summer vacation with Elton John, Prince Albert & Karl Lagerfeld BY SHELBY HODGE 07.20.11
"This is the most excited I've been in years," cooed Lynn Wyatt as she recalled last week's birthday celebration at Ouisie's, where she was saluted by 13 gents at what was billed as the "boyfriend lunch." But that statement could have easily applied to her entire summer to date.
While mere mortals jockeyed for invitations to the chicest of soirées in Aspen and Nantucket, La Wyatt was comfortably ensconced in Monaco as the guest of the royal family for the wedding of Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock and overnighted with Elton John at Windsor for hisWhite Tie & Tiara ball and is now planning joining Tory Burch in the Hamptons for an overdue Long Island fix.
Lynn's tales of her stratospheric summer adventures spill forth as casually as if she were recounting a weekend at the opera in Santa Fe. But no ordinary engagements these.
Lynn is headed back to Elton John's country estate in Windsor next month when she will spend five days with the rock star, his partner David Furnish and their 7-month-old son Zachary. Lynn describes the baby's enormous room as a "nursery museum."
A longtime friend of the royals of Monaco (she and Princess Grace and Prince Rainier were very close for decades), Lynn enjoyed, shall we say, the royal treatment as a special guest throughout the three days of celebration surrounding the Monaco royal wedding. Her invitations included a private reception and seating next to the royal box for the Eagles concert that kicked off the festivities, dinner in the gardens of the swank Hermitage Hotel for the royal viewing of Jean Michel Jarre's fireworks and lightingspectacular and, of course, the wedding.
"Unforgettable," she described the three days of partying. "Everything was perfect. It was so beautiful," she said of the two-hour wedding that took place in the palace courtyard.
Our Houston grande dame was among the 900 highly-envied wedding guests and made the cut for the late-night dinner for 500, a much-coveted invitation. Famed chef Alain Ducasse oversaw the Mediterranean-themed dinner where Lynn was seated with Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, a few other royals and where she had SirRoger Moore as her dinner partner.
Also on this 14-day Euro adventure (her longest stretch away since husband Oscar Wyatt suffered a stroke in November of 2008), Lynn was Elton John's houseguest the night of his annual AIDS benefit. "We stayed up until 3:30 in the morning, sitting in the kitchen dishing on the party," she said.
Lynn is headed back to Elton's country estate in Windsor next month when she will spend five days with the rock star, his partner David Furnish and their 7-month-old son Zachary. Lynn describes the baby's enormous room as a "nursery museum."
That visit abroad will include several days visiting friends in Monte Carlo and London. That's after house guesting with designer Tory Burch in South Hampton.
A rare haute couture adventure After visiting Elton and attending the royal wedding. Lynn was on to Paris for a few days with friends. "When I arrived at my hotel, there were these gorgeous flowers and a note from Karl Lagerfeld. He invited me to his studio for that night," Lynn said.
"That night" was the evening before his fall-winter 2011/2012 haute couture presentation at the Grand Palais. Lynn had the rare privilege of observing the Chanel maestro as he tweaked his designs and critiqued the models, including muse Stella Tennant and Amanda Harlech. It was a rare treat, she said, to see "his creative genius in action, the master at work."
The following evening, Lynn was front and center in the steel and glassGrand Palais, when the curtain went up at 10 p.m. on the space transformed into the Place Vendome. And as the London Telegraph reported, "In the center, on top of a Perspex plinth identical to one in Place Vendome, stood not Napoleon, but a glass statue of a hatted and suited, Coco Chanel (oh, Karl you are so naughty!)."
As Lynn described the scene, "It was so very magical."
While Lynn was in Europe, Oscar was back in the saddle making a business trip that included stops in Jordan, Dubai and Bangkok, with visits to a few friends along the way. While he continues to deal with stroke-related issues, Oscar is up and about, well enough to make these kinds of trips and to continue conducting business.
Back home at last Lynn returned home in time to celebrate her birthday with three days of partying. The one fete that she is talking about the most is her boyfriend lunch, organized by close pal Sanford Criner. The adoring gents took over the wine room at Ouisie's for a midday feast laced with charming champagne toasts to the birthday girl.
"I've just never felt so spoiled in my life. It was such a cute idea," she exclaimed. The guest list ran the gamut from Dr. Denton Cooley to Arthur Seeligson to the Menil Collection's Vance Muse to Ford Hubbard III,who composed a lyric that was so loving Lynn is going to have it printed and framed.
Lynn might have been the honoree but she was the one handing out party favors at the luncheon — special black T-shirts that she had designed for the guys. In bold block letters, the front read, "I am BF #1. No I'm BF #1." And then "Keep on fighting boys. I love it. LW"
The backs of the T-shirts read "My boyfriend's back."

Thanks for the info Countess. Wow, Lynn has a husband - he must really be invisible because I have never seen a photo of him with her. They must have one of those special marriages - she has her own life and he his. I didn't know that Steve Wynn was Lynn Wyatt's son. I knew that one of her sons was Sarah, Duchess of York's special friend.

King Juan Carlos of Spain never accepts invitations to British Royal weddings either, this has something to do with who owns the Rock of Gibraltar. Other members of the Spanish Royal Family attend in his place. Didn't Princess Caroline attend the wedding of Prince Felipe and Letizia?

Yes, she attended the pre-wedding events with Ernst August of Hannover. I think she attended the wedding itself alone because, if I remember correctly, he got too drunk the evening before to attend.

It is a good thing that royals and nobles don't settle differences with duels anymore. I thought that King Juan Carlos's mother was Prince Albert's godmother. I'm suprised that the Greek royals were not invited, the Italian and Russian royals were invited.

King Juan Carlos had knee surgery two months ago and now has achilles tendonitis. He is walking with a cane and an orthopedic shoe . I am not suprised that he did not attend. I don't know why other members did not attend though. They must of been busy is Spain.

Countess you're hilarious, how could you think Steve Wynn was her son? ;D I once worked with her son Steve--I have to say he was always very gracious. I don't believe Oscar is his real father (I think an interesting story there), Oscar adopted him and he took his name. I think Lynn has a lot of sons. Oscar Wyatt use to own most of the pipeline in the states, but I think he sold it quite awhile ago, also I think he didn't like the george Bush family (for being faux Texans) , and was one of the first to tell that Enron was a house of cards. I wondered what had happened to him after he was convicted for participating in the food for gas scheme. Lynn is from the Sakowitz (spelling?) family and has been pretty well known everywhere as a socialite forevet, but she seemed to keep a pretty low profile after Oscar went to prison. I wasn't aware that he was out or had had a stroke. I know Lynn use to have an annual Birthday party at her villa in the south of France and even after Grace's death, Rainier and Albert always attended, so it does not surprise me that she went to the wedding, but she hasn't appeared at any of the Balls for quite awhile, not since Raineir's death maybe? Lynn is no spring chicken, but not too many years ago she posed in a Valentino dress that she wore to the Rose Ball like twenty yeras before--she still looked very good in it--I couldn't believe her arms looked that good, but she had the right pose to hide them. It was the Town and Country magazine's tribute to Valentino when he retired--Tatiana modeled a Valentino dress also. Does anyone know LYnn's age? I know she has to be up there? I've been watching the Gadhafi story going on as I'm posting here, and I'm half expecting to see Albert and Charlene there in some footage running around ;D so they can take the opportunity to get some more camera time ;D. I think I saw the two dressed up like rebels, but Charlene has her Tiara on ;D....she's on her way to raid another palace. ;D I'm waiting for this stupid reporter to get shot as she stnads aroun in a hail of gunfire--maybe just the camera man just needs to show what is going on there--we don't need to see this woman's face .

Does anyone have pictures of other Kelly relatives that attended? John B. Kelly III was there, but I didn't see any family picture of him. Chris Levine was his best man. I wonder if any other Kelly members attended.
