More insight into this family that Albert has imposed on Monaco - and who he is stuck with AND how little BEnoni cares abut this wedding. What's really funny is that everyone who really actually knows Charlene talks about how blunt and direct that she is - with many saying she takes no shit form anyone. Yet, all the sugar loonies look at her photos and deem her shy - even though Charlene herself states that she is very outgoing, funny, a people-person and how much she loves the press (recall PPDA interview). But, for the sugar loonies the shy and innocent characteristics go with the angelic persona that they have conjured in their pea-sized minds who Charlene is. From The Star:
Benoni bokkie with royal tasteby Theresa Taylor June 29 2011
When he is in Monaco visiting Charlene, Michael Wittstock often phones the manager of his local pub to talk about sports scores.
“Michael is so down to earth… you would never think his daughter was about to marry such a rich man,” said Antonio Hadjiyski, manager of McGinty’s Irish Pub and Grill in Benoni.
Charlene Wittstock, a former South African Olympic swimmer, will marry Albert II, Prince of Monaco, at the weekend.
Charlene was born in Zimbabwe, but lived in Benoni from ages 10 to 17. Her parents still live in the Benoni suburb of Rynfield.
Her dad, Michael, goes into McGinty’s “almost every day” for a beer or a bite to eat. He just phoned Hadjiyski on Saturday to say he is bringing both Hadjiyski and his brother-in-law back a shirt signed by the prince.
Another haunt of the Wittstock family is the Rynfield Keg and Knight, where Charlene’s brother Sean was a manager.
Jules Currin, 28, worked with Sean and use to socialise in the same crowd as him.
“Charlene was well mannered and decent… she was friendly but she didn’t take nonsense (from anyone).”
Although the Wittstocks were always “a lot of fun”, they were very family oriented.
“(Charlene and Sean) were two of the closest siblings I’ve seen,” said Currin.
Currin believes it’s the cosy family values of Benoni that have caused the town to produce two international stars: Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and now Charlene.
“We all love each other like one big family,” said Currin.
But are Benoni residents excited that one of their own is becoming a royal? The biggest event in Benoni on the day of the wedding appears to be the Holistic Fayre at the John Barrable Hall, which the organisers call a festival of “love, light and friendship”.
Local newspaper, the Benoni City Times, has been inviting residents to come and write messages in a book they hope to give to Charlene when she next visits South Africa, rumoured to be sometime next month.
There are only about 30 messages in the book, and a Benoni City Times employee said most people had not taken an interest.
However, the messages in the book are heartfelt. On the first page, a man who signed himself “Gerald” has written: “Charlene, I don’t know if you remember me, but I was the pool superintendent at the Benoni swimming pool who used to time you doing laps.”
One Benoni primary school has decided to celebrate the occasion by appealing to Charlene to help them build a heated swimming pool.
Farrarmere Primary School sent a letter to Charlene in March, but has not received a reply.
“She is very busy with the wedding,” said Max Di Domenico, the chairman of the governing body.
However, one of Charlene’s cousins apparently attends Farrarmere Primary School and has taken the plans for the new pool along to the wedding in Monaco.
“If Charlene Wittstock can help us we will name the pool after her,” said Di Domenico.
However they choose to celebrate Charlene’s big day, there’s one thing residents agree on – there is nothing like Benoni.
“There is a different vibe here,” said student Zander Davel, 19, who didn’t know the royal wedding was happening.
An ex-Benoni resident, who lives in Sandton, said: “(They) all know each other. They all went to school together, there are not a lot of schools here.”
He doesn’t know the Wittstock family personally, but he knew Charlize through “a friend of my mother’s who knew her mother”.
Antonio Hadjiyski manager at the Mcgintys in Northmead Benoni, were Charlene Wittstocks father enjoy some drinks there weekly.Community members wrote messages in a diary at the Benoni City Times offices for Charlene Wittstock who is getting married to Prince Albert II of Monaco on Saturday. The diary will presented to her in Durban next month

As posted in the Wedding Preparation thread, Albert chose wine from his long-time friend’s winery, Haskell Wines, to be served exclusively during the wedding. Well, it seems that Papa Wittstock got a piece of that action and had 150 bottles of another South African wine served also – officially named Charbert. Any bets on whether this was a “you scratch my back and I scratch yours” arrangement? From Cape Argus
Exclusive wine for royaltyBy KOWTHAR SOLOMONS July 20 2011
Annandale Wines, one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa, supplied some of the wines for the Monaco royal wedding.
Owner and former Springbok Hempies du Toit says his Stellenbosch estate has won acclaim all over the world with numerous awards to its credit, including the Grand Prix d’Honneur award in 1993 at a wine expo in France.
Du Toit met Charlene Wittstock through mutual friends during her days as a competitive swimmer. But he was still surprised when her father approached him to bottle some wine for the wedding.
He decided that he had to “do justice to the occasion” and selected Annandale’s 2005 Merlot. The wine had not been bottled and had matured in vats of French oak for six years. Apart from having been an excellent vintage, he chose the 2005 wine because it was the year the couple met.
“Merlot is a very special wine to me, that’s why I allowed that particular vintage to mature for so long. It’s a soft, full-bodied wine with rich flavours. The lengthy maturing process helped to create a perfect harmony between the fruity and wooden notes.”
A total of 150 1.5 litre bottles of the merlot, officially named Charbert, labelled with Albert and Charlene’s initials, was served at the wedding reception. The merlot and another batch of wines from the Haskell vineyard were selected.
Annandale makes only red wines, with the bulk of its 72ha estate planted to cabernet sauvignon. The rest is cabernet Franc, merlot and shiraz.
Du Toit is a fifth-generation winemaker who was introduced to the industry by his father Piet du Toit at the Alto vineyard. After his father retired in 1983, the former Springbok took over the estate, famed for its cabernet sauvignon, and a red blend simply called Alto Rouge. Not content with running Alto, du Toit struck out on his own and in 1996 bought Annandale.
Annandale has never released a wine younger than six years.
“I’m not into mass production but try to cater for an exclusive client base. It’s all about longevity, a lesson passed down from my father. I still have bottles from 1965 that my father made.
“I think it’s a privilege to make wine. I create wine not just to sell but for the love and enjoyment of it. Just like my father passed that love down to me, I hope to pass that same love down to my sons.”

This is what one of the sites that came up when I wrote Alchar in google...:-) AL's Char-House - Steakhouse & Saloon ( burning money for their pleasure )! Al-Char Lakes in Ohio ( drowning Monaco ) is the other one... And some serious businesses which I am not going to bring into this mess of an affair... Regardless of our joking, this wine is obviously one of the ( first ) deals described in the articles about the non existent "daddy", an "actual manager" getting some business now that he is "related" to PA.

wonder whether he paid for it or had Al foot the bill. But even if he paid it: what a pityful contribution in comparison to what the Middletons paid.

The merlot from the vineyard were selected. I don’t like Merlot… Cabernet sauvignon is must better. a wine younger than six years is never good wine. Cheap wine must be drunk within 5 to 7 years otherwise it is bad. Only wines with and high tannin you can save... But with a name like ‘Charbert’ you can expect that they are not going to keep it… ;D

Charbert could be their "Ripple" or "Boons Farm" and that stuff was so bad you couldn't even use it for cooking. Of course the title "Charbert" sounds like it's neither red nor white. It's a "bi" wine!

Here's another article, published in Afrikaans in Beeld, about how Charlene's father commissioned the Charbert Merlot to be served at the reception. You just have to love and get a chuckle for this guy's claim that he is not trying to use this wedding to market his wine. Don't worry Hempies, you can market the wedding, but I don't if you'll get a lot osf sales from it - no one else has. Well, you may get some sales in SA - from sucker ups who want to drink what royals (well pseudo royals) drink. Below is a poor Google translation of the original Afrikaans, but you can get the gist of the article. I wonder if this is one of those business contacts that Sean mentioned that his father has made because of Sucker Albert/the wedding/the marriage.
Shirts provide the Chalbert Merlotby Ilse Krige 2011-07-04
Stellenbosch. - A "royal" wine for the recent royal wedding in Monaco is special from Hempies du Toit's Annandale Cellars viewed.
The well-known Stellenbosch winemaker and former Springbok prop said he knows the Wittstock family for a long time.
"I trying to make the necessary respect for their privacy to show. So I wanted the wedding to use as a marketing tool for my wine.
"It gave me a big enough honor for such a request from Charlene's father (Mr. Mike Wittstock) came," Du Toit said.
He is still infinitely proud of its export product, with the official "Chalbert" label with Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock's initials on it at the reception gepryk.
The labels are designed in France and from there forwarded. A description of the wine in French, and the story of the wedding is back bottles stuck.
The Merlot used, was not coincidental bottled and is already six years in French oak barrels.
Apart from 2005, a exceptional vintage for red wine, was also the year that the couple had started dating.
"Even if I say it myself, it's a very special wine. If it were not, I would not be so long in the barrel on it. This Merlot has all the characteristics of the original wines of Pomerol, France - the traditional merlot region.
"It is a soft, full-bodied wine with ripe rooibessiegeure. It is during the extended aging process harmony created between the wood and fruit components, "Du Toit said.
"This merlot is like a newly married - full of hope and expectations with an unlimited fynproewersleeftyd."
Du Toit was already in November calls for the wedding in mind a special wine selection.
"The idea is so long cherished. The wine for the wedding celebration of 150 magnums exist. A lot of 750 ml bottles of wine will be in Europe as a memento of the wedding will be issued. "
Local wine drinkers will be the fruit of Stellenbosch's vineyards can also taste because a limited amount of the award is held for later sale.

Well, I am not a professional, but to me she doesn't have it. Not with that nose anyways. And from what I have seen on her pics of Amber lounge etc. Her hair is a mess. Extensions don't look good, plus she is overdoing her blond. she looks better then trashy, especially from far, but I think all of her body parts didn't come from mother nature, but she looks reality tv starlet, at best she could sell cheap clothes. Or supermarket make up. Oh wait Claudia Schiffer is already doing that, so I guess it has to be below that level for her...Maybe she could do a condom ad with Gareth and then give it to Albert as a reminder
