LOL could somebody tell me if the CC can speak any German because of her German ancestors? Great-great-something-great-granddaddy Gottlieb Wittstock dates back to 1800something, if I am to believe this weeks Bunte. So I would think that they have unlearned the German by now and don't speak anything but English. Barbie herself by her own admission doesn't speak anything but English and a bit of Afrikaans. And since she hasn't even managed to learn decent French, I'd doubt she is fluent in German. (Even Albert doesn't seem to be, when the going gets tough, he speaks English or French, not German. Several years ago, he gave a somewhat serious interview on German television. To my surprise Albert didn't speak German and the whole bloody thing got drowned out by the German voice-over.)

All in all, did anybody catch a video if she spoke in German during the visit? LOL could somebody tell me if the CC can speak any German because of her German ancestors? she spoke English to people. she speaks badly Africaans and she grew up in the country and was taught in school. She was taught French (well, the few times she showed for class), married a head of state of a francophone country and still doesn't speak it....

I think he once visited the Eurosport commentators at some bob event and talked with them in German for some length of time...so maybe his knowledge of the language is limited to his interests....if he ever loses his job, maybe he can find an opening at Beate Uhse TV

I certainly read it, but not sure if it was posted. This was one of the articles that stated that there were not a lot of people and this was a visit more for the hairdresser press then anyone else. And that people should not overestimate the economic importance either...

I remember Munich in the summer being so quiet around this time. Weren't most people away on holiday anyways when they came? Germans are serious royal watchers for a democracy. This princely visit went from charm offensive to just offensive IMO. It looked like Albert & CC were expecting instant love and did nothing to earn any. No wow, no great detours to meet Germans, environmentalists or anyone with who to build ties. Nope, Bunte, that was it. Behind closed doors of course Albert got his tax haven b*lls squeezed ;D I don't think he fared better out in the open!

Munich is quiet around this time since it is the holidays. Actually for most part of Europe, the European are traveling/vacationing. So to say that German are "royal watcher" I would precise your point. In fact I would categorized them as "curious" and "gossipy" (not in a bad way) Similar to the USA and their "Star Watcher". I don't believe most European to be as "royal watcher" as the British are, even thought a good gossip can inflame the Nation.

Berlin has been on holidays hence there was a chance for tourists at the Brandenburgertor. But then again you always find a crowd there. Baden Wuertemberg is later with the holidays. The southern laender still have the farmers in mind. Farmer kids still have to help with the work these days... Of course officially child labour is forbidden, but on a farm it is somewhat expected that the kids help during harvesting time... As to Germans being royal watchers, I think they aren't anymore then the French. There is a certain media (and lots of those around), but really the average person doesn't care much. And if they do then more for the BRF or Swedes. But that as well due to Silvia only. Otherwise I don't think they would be paying much attention. I have to say though that in comparison the French pay a lot less attention to the Danes and they are already providing 2 family members... But I guess it's because it is too up north and cold. And not a place the French would go for the holidays

I'm going by just how much the German press has covered Monaco. You don't see that as much in the French media about royal houses. Yes, naturally there's been excitement about the British wedding etc but nothing like Bunte hanging on the every move of Monaco.

actually they are covering all Royals. They only cover trashy a bit more because all others do not grant direct access. Trashy is the only one who has Riekel on speed dial. But all in all I don't think that they are covering them a lot more. There used to be a lot more on them in Stephs younger years and also when Caro was younger. Now they are more, but less entertaining and scandalous. I think they are turning a little more towards Sweden these days with Victoria and her family, the scandalous King and his German queen and the two youngsters and their partners. There is a tad more fun in there and real emotions plus they are younger. And I have to say that her bro is much better and healthier looking then Andrea. ;D

I'm intrigued. Victoria has a cute brother? I thought there was only a cute Greek prince somewhere. I'm going to google.
