Once again KL will be in charge of the Roseball. it will be a Russian theme.... guess that fits the rest of where MC is headed. Wonder if Albert will invite Putin Wonder why they think sucking up to Russian residents should be done with Russian themes everywhere? If they wanted sth Russian they'd stay in Russia wouldn't they? Besides these Russians are rich enough to go back and forth whenever they like to Russia and enjoy Russian culture... or do they want the locals to get used to MC being transformed into a crossbread of SA and Russia? www.monacomatin.mc/monaco/albert-ii-les-jeux-de-sotchi-sont-une-reussite.1628322.html

yes, I think there should be a different thread. Maybe in the current event section. thanks paca, unfortunately, i cannot do that today, but let me think about it. i never created one before. if anyone else knows how, i will contribute periodically because it's an issue that is not going to go away easily. i think it's an important discussion but don't know how to word the Subject line. i'm still a babe in the woods. Tks.

I can start the thread on your behalf. Look for "The Russification of Monaco". How's that?

Anyways, musically, I love that Stromae guy. KL no doubt can get Vanessa Paradis who just did a beautiful album. Daft Punk is riding a tidal wave (invite Pharrell too). Etc etc.

Stromae is goood, that would be an upgrade. I think it´s a pity that they never broadcast any of the balls.

That would be an additional source of income for the fundraising if they licensed the broadcasting rights. I mean, in this era of m'as-tu-vu...

I think they are owned by the Russians, hence the theme. I'm waiting for them to start re-naming streets - Putin Place.

I mean, in this era of m'as-tu-vu... now that's a concept. most of these Russian attendees would NOT LIKE TO BE ON CAMERA. get it!! Monaco is where they go to party, show off and "hide." yes, broadcasting would yield a level of transparency that they might not be able to handle. believe me will not happen. they will not approve the public exposure.

Today, 20th of February on Riviera Radio site is below. Note the lack of caps in the last sentence. Someone was in a big hurry or an intern at the wheel:
"Monaco’s Rose Ball - Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has, as last year, agreed to help his friend Princess Caroline with the forthcoming Rose Ball in Monaco, on the 29th of March. Lagerfeld was in Monaco to oversee the design of the 2013 edition and has agreed to do the same this year. It’s one of the biggest society events of the year and the theme of this year’s ball is Russian contructivism, with the designer taking inspiration for his designs for the ball and it’s invitatations from the geometry and big bursts of colour used in the work of Malevitch. It’s a special year for the ball this year, marking the 50th anniversary of the Princess grace foundation."

I enjoy Karl Lagerfeld, I do. But I've yet to see someone with no allegiances of any kind like him. For example, in an interview he did on TV (I'll get the link in a minute), it looked like he took sheer pleasure, in front tof a French audience, to point out that great French fashion houses were foreign-owned. I mean, to gloat in that when France has made your career and to kind of pooh on the French to the French was - I'm sorry - tasteless. Short-term gratitude and no humility. Don't get me wrong, I love his candour but he's not delicate. Now, on the topic of Malevitch... there were definitely better Russian artists from that period. Yes, colours and bold strokes but a peasant-y heaviness to boot. On n'est pas couché

Hm, how relevant is he in the fashion world at the moment? Maybe he is just a tad bitter.

Hm, how relevant is he in the fashion world at the moment? Maybe he is just a tad bitter. He's hanging in there just fine, for an old guy. The toys are fun, at least he has the gift of self-parody. But after his cat now him, what's left? Maybe too it's exactly his age that makes him lose some filters when he speaks... He needs his own "The Devil Wears Prada" IMO Here's a synopsis. Outsider lurking, envious of YSL who he thinks of as another outsider born outside France like him but weaker. KL plots to make Yves crazy, finally makes a move on the competing house, Chanel and dethrones the queen. After that, he drinks the blood of ambitious young guys, though he's motivated by the loss of his great love to AIDS, eager that death should never happen to him. He develops a Michael Jacksonesque phobia of germs as a result of the life sucking spectre of his mother (a la Hitchcock) and one day, an army of his toys turn demonic and decide it's time they took over. Mwahahahaha

With current world events, doesn't the Russian theme seem really ill advised? Then again, I wonder if Albert is the one who put Putin's name forward for the Nobel Peace Prize.
