For Carla it will be too hot but I think Albert should invite DSK the guy spent his youth here and he has a lot in common with Albert. They should throw a prewedding rape party on a yacht, just for old times sake There is a reason why I don't want my boys to grow into men in Monaco....

Paca, you joke, but we don't know if they didn't invite DSK. It seems that the palace's goal was to invite as many VIPs as they possibly can. This is a made-for-tv wedding to attract attention - so they need VIPs Also, a long list of VIPs justifies (in heir moronic minds) the government of Monaco picking up the I'm sure very very very expensive bill for this sham of a wedding. In their initial delusional state, they actually believed the cost of the production of the wedding would be paid from the half a million a pot broadcast fees that TV stations around the world were going to be knocking down the palace walls to pay.

actually I am not joking. DSK and Fanny Ardant are VIPs who spent their childhood or part of it here. Ardant was at Rainiers funeral, not sure about DSK. Her dad was a palace guard. I know people who went to school with her brother. MC likes to boast about famous people with MC links. I'm only surprised they don't dig up Apollinaire....

btw I don't think that this wedding will cost less then 20 Million. You have to count the security, the extra trains 5that won't be used) the Eagles don't play for free and need equipment shipped which comes at a price. I'd be surprised if 20 Million would even be enough. I think we should have a thread estimating the costs going by the details given. Just take the costs for the rent of the stade Louis 2. What does it cost to rent it? The lightshow and cleaning up afterwards, on land and sea. there are so many costs involved that if Monegasques would be aware of them, they'd be chasing them right out. even if they had kept it small it would have cost at least 10 Million. take a few of the numbers from the brit wedding as guideline and then make the math. Also you will have to count the promotion show with travelling the globe to market the wedding. And we will probably never know how much they paid to get cover stories...all in all I think this roadshow will add up to 100Million. And that's why they had to cut the budget.

According to this article in the Sunday Express, Edward and Sophie will be representing the Queen at the wedding - count how far down the line is the two to understand what the Brits think of Albert and his head of state prestige. Well, at least they answered te invitation and is sending someone - more than what Sarkozy thought of him.
Sunday Express May 22, 2011 By Adam Helliker
No sooner will Prince Albert of Monaco and his new wife Charlene Wittstock have unpacked their bags from their honeymoon following their forthcoming wedding than they will be off again... to glamorous Leeds.
On what will be their first overseas engagement as a married couple, the pair will be at the 50th anniversary ball of the Yorkshire branch of the Variety Club, which is being held at Harewood House, the stately pile belonging to the Earl of Harewood.
Albert's parents, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, went to the same ball 40 years ago when it was also their first visit to the UK as newly-weds.
Prince Albert's wedding to former Olympic swimmer Charlene will be a two-day event in Monaco, with a civil ceremony on July 1 followed by a knees-up for 3,500 guests, including the Earl and Countess of Wessex who will be representing the Queen.

Albert can now sigh with relief. If British Royals come, than other will follow (don´t want to say that the BRF is the leading Royal House, but you know how I mean it).
The guestlist is a joke. I remember articles about Williams wedding about a stupid Mexican girl who wanted an invite, minor Royals fought for an invite etc. Didn´t hear about similar stuff here.

According to this little tidbit in a Houson society page article, Grace's friend Lynn Wyatt will attend the wedding. Funny, they got the date wrong of the wedding of the century. For the drop-dead fabulous amfAR party at Hotel du Cap, Diane clearly dressed for the red carpet in a gold and beige beaded gown by Naeem Khan. Having just returned Sunday from her Cote d'Azur adventure, Diane reports that the galaxy of fashion and film stars at that prestigious event included Karl Lagerfeld, Jude Law, Woody Allen, Eva Herzigova, Kirsten Dunst, Prince Albert of Monaco and his fiancé Charlene Wittstock. (Lynn Wyatt will be among the cognescenti attending their June 2 wedding in Monte Carlo.)

Too risky to send Andrew considering his connection to a pedophile. The York girls are off the list for doing royal duties. They've already lost their bodyguards. Sophie and Edward are a safe choice.

According to article in Le Journal du Dimanche, Sarkozy will attend the religious ceremony only - without Carla.
Sarkozy: minimum service in Monaco 05.29.2011 Nicolas Sarkozy will attend the beginning of July, wedding in Monaco Prince Albert, Charlene Wittstock. But the head of state should attend only the religious ceremony at Sainte Devote and not the official dinner.Except surprise, the President will be alone. Carla has no plans to make the trip on the Rock.

Oh, i wanted to see Carla there. Charlene can breath easily now, but Sarko going only to the religious ceremony, speaks volumes, imo.

WEll, I think this thread soon will have to be called the who will not attend thread. From what I hear (getting the gossip delivered right into my living room today), they are having a hard time trying to get their own people interested to see the court yard show. Apparently all Monegasques can come to the mass if they want to. But that just seems to be the problem; if you want to attend you need to inscribe yourself in a list. Usually this is done at the city hall. Apparently hardly anyone went, so they changed it and you can go to certain shops etc as well and put your name down there. Seems like still only few are doing it. The official excuse is that they can see better on TV Inofficially, a large number does not like that the wedding is not taking place in the cathedral, especially since it is the 100th anniversary of the cathedral. And then it seems that the bride is not liked at all. They find her cold and either have had bad encounters with her or have heard of someone who did. the best you hear is that she is bizarre. Apparently now they have started to invite all sorts of people who have had some contact with the family. Caroline has invited Andrea's former piano teacher, with whom they have kept in touch over the years. So a lot of people who are coming are not coming for the couple, but for other family members. In the case of the piano teacher it is gratitude and respect towards Caroline and her children for having helped when times were difficult. It does remind me of a scene in a Romy Schneider Sissy movie, where the imperial couple is attending an opera at la Scala and the local nobility sends their servants.( I am expecting to read this line soon in a German tabloid ) I believe that Albert completely underestimated the intelligence of his people. People do not like her for having had all that surgery, for never having worked and for not having an education. And they do not like either, that they are invited to come to a wedding only so they have a crowd to present. They do not see that they have actually made an effort these past years when she was dragged along, to actually convince the people that she will be doing a good job. The fact that she still does not speak the language although she has had plenty of time and opportunity to do so, is not in her favor either. The French (and Monegasques too) are not known to be good in languages themselves, so they are rather forgiving when you do not master it as a foreigner. But when they notice that you are making an honest effort and are getting better, they reward you with a lot of respect. On the other hand, when they see that you are not willing to learn it, and in trashys case she is not only not willing, but wants to be their princess, they decide to not like you. They do not believe that she wants to be their princess as in doing the job, as otherwise she would have acquired a certain fluency in the language by now, after all these years in Monaco. You can not be wanting to do the job and not learning the language of those for whom you are supposed to be doing it. IMO if she does not get her act together straight after the wedding, the dislike will turn into open hostility very soon. ANd a photo op will not do the trick. Everyone here knows that a wedding will not boost the economy, just like the tour de France didn't do it either. Only the tour did cost a lot less. They will not have to publish the cost of the wedding, people know anyways. And they will be very unforgiving if their living conditions continue to go down and the new princess continues the way she has been doing things these past years. And I won't even mention all her hangers on that are making themselves greatly unpopular around here with their behaviour and attitude of entitlement.

Isn't the "religious ceremony at St. Devote" only leaving the Frankinstein bride's Bouqet on the doorstep of the church? Basically just throwing it out of the car.
