Well, my question doesn't apply only to monegasques by birth, but to people that live there, be them monegasques or not. Or to french people that are constantly in contact with Monaco.
I know a monegasque guy, well i'm friends with him in facebook, though we don't speak, and from what i can see he seems to like Charlene (and Albert). And seems to be happy about the upcoming wedding (aka street corner circus) But he is one versus all the rest of Monaco. So, what do people think about Albert and Charlene there? Could they care less about them, they love Charlene, they hate Charlene, they have both feelings?

since they live in a police state (run by flyingmonkeyflunkies (IMO they live in the land of oz) they probably better speak the "party line", smile and pretend. it's a small community, if it works like my small community, everyone knows everything sooner or later. i wouldn't even trust the internet forums, petty, small, ignorant, egotist like FatAl have very thin skin and love to throw their weight around (wouldn't you hate to see that blob of ugly coming at you). i'd hate for one of our friends to end up in a dungeon with no phone call. it will be interesting to see how they turn out for the circus, will they line the streets, just show up for the freestuff, dress up, hold signs, cry, desert the rock? i can't wait for july i'm going to be so disappointed if it doesn't even show up on the internet wait what time would i have to get up? i might not bother and just watch it on youtube BTW have the non dynamic duo set up a facebook or youtube wedding account.......ROFL didn't think so, just that lame link on the palace website. i only looked once because i don't want to contribute to the traffic #'s but i wasn't impressed (surprise surprise)

there is a good reason why he wouldn't want to be alone withe her. Yesterday I seemed to be running into everyone, catching up with all sorts of gossip. The verdict on the coat hanger is devastating. Apparently the role she plays for people she considers helpful to her is entirely different then her normal behaviour. SHe and her family have been compared to Gaddafis clan. Especially one, whose business is marginally benefiting of the wedding, because they deal with the palace as well as local guests, painted quite a picture. The worst to suck up to her are the Monegasques who were not born Monegasques. The old Monegasques families are the ones who seem to care the least for her or the wedding. They bear with it, like they have born with everything else they have been put through by the Grimaldis. None buys the love marriage. As for any offspring they are clear that it will be IVF. One of the reasons being that she is still not attractive and they can't imagine Albert ever wanting to have sex with her. even worse. Apart from the shoulders which seem to be a major turnoff to most, her looks are extremely plastic (especially when she is not done up with plaster make up). But what is worse is the description of her personality. SHe still does not speak French and only speaks via intermediation, even when she is dealing with people who speak English fluently. Apparently she is under the impression that a future princess does not speak directly with shopkeepers and the likes. She's been described as being extremely impolite, ill mannered and, what surprised even me, cruel. She certainly isn't liked by any local who has had to deal with her and has no need to suck up to her. those who do suck up to her only pretend that they like her. Seeing that this is a close community you can be sure that everyone is aware of what is going on. people do talk and Monaco....they talk a lot. Right on the rock the gossip is even worse then where I usually move. NO spindoctor can change the image she has with people here. the bludging of her family is not going down well at all. It doesn't matter if they stay in Monaco or in the area in France. you meet the same people all over the place and they all know someone who knows knows someone....so as long as they are here at the coast people in Monaco will hear about their extravagencies...besides none of them speaks French so they don't go without being noticed...in a negative way.
trashy's queen incident shocked people here too and her waving the union jack after the queens dinner made her a complete laughing stock. All in all the verdict is least then favourable for her and no one really believes that the wedding will change anything economically in Monaco as they are trying to make people believe. It is generally seen as Alberts last card to play, after all his other attempts have failed. A lot of people think it would have been better for him to get married at a younger age and be divorced by now, rather then having to put up with this. No one would have blamed him then, but now they do as they know he is old enough to know better plus now he is the one supposed to make decisions for Monaco so this marriage charade will not be excused when it fails. And people are convinced that it will. The main question is for some the after Albert scenario. If he goes through with this marriage, his governing will be definitely tied to this wedding. If it fails, he fails and will need to be replaced. But even if he keeps it up, due to her character and her actions, they will be so unpopular, that they both will have to go. If Albert is interested in keeping his position, he better find a way out of this quickly. IMO a keep face scenario could be that he says he has some health issues that need immediate attendance but won't have any impact on his ruling the country. he will go to the US for treatment for a few weeks, keeping a low profile, losing some of his weight and come back without her. Obviously in the beginning she will be by his side in the US, but then will be faded out. The dissolving of the engagement will just be a minor statement, which hardly anyone would notice... if he goes ahead with the wedding, he is doomed in more then one way. But since he has a habit of taking the wrong decisions, he will of course go ahead with it.

No they won't donna. only those who want to suck up do anyways, the others keep the one of Albert in uniform or another official pic of him. I posted some local opinion in the preparation thread. most surprising to me was that she is perceived as cruel. The rest I already knew or had witnessed myself.

WOW Paca - thank you for this insider report!!! There had been rumors that one Lady in waiting quit the job because CW treated her badly. Now it makes more and more sense to me that the person(s) who installed CW as Flagship depend on positive articles in yellow press abroad and are so eager to construct it... What means: "and only speaks via intermediation, even when she is dealing with people who speak English fluently."? Does she have a baby sitter Lady in waiting with her? 100% agree with your analizis of options and scenarios Total logic... To make CW fall it wouldn't take any active effort - just stop helping her out and let her stumble over her own too big foots to let is get obvious she doesn't fit in the tiny Princess shoe ... doesn't it ?

Especially one, whose business is marginally benefiting of the wedding, because they deal with the palace as well as local guests, painted quite a picture. Thanks so much for this report Paca. I swear you won't know this based on the Monaco's local media reporting of Charlene and this wedding. I am going to try to recreate the thread that we had on RoyalDish with all the local media testimony from businesses, shop owners and people in Monaco who just love Charlene and feel that this wedding will be a big boom for Monaco. Charlene will only deal with those who suck up to her. What! You mean everyone in Monaco doesn't think their Princess Charlene is the most beautiful princess ev er and is the splitting image of Grace? That's what the local Monaco media has been telling us since the engagement. I am not suprised that she is cruel - I've read her posts in these message boards. Charlene is a master manipulator who knows how to flatter people to get what she wants. When she feels that she no longer needs you, she shows her true nasty self - and the closer she gets to getting everything that she scammed Sucker Al out of, the more confident and worse she will get. It will be payback time for a lot of people. She's going to dole out favors and praises to those who bend down and kiss her flat ass real good. Well, the local Monaco magazines have found a few people to sing the praises of this wedding. In addition to the Monaco Matin, there have been several testimonies published in La Gazette, La Principaute, and Monaco Hebdo. I also stated that Albert has to fake an illness to get out of this wedding. But after reading the latest editorial from the local magazines again hailing this wedding as a major economic boom for Monaco, I don't think Albert have the guts to call it off. He and the palace have sold this wedding as a big tourist attraction and worldwide image booster for Monaco. The people in Monaco are just too STUPID to realize that if it hasn't happen yet, it is not going to happen in the next 50 days. So, Albert and the palace are now trying to rent a crowd to save face . But, renting a crowd is not going to help Monaco financially. The only way this wedding will be canceled if Albert is caught in a comprising position with another woman or Charlene is exposed (preferably on video) for the true pathological lying bitch she really is. Otherwise, the farce of a made-for-tv-wedding will go on. I cannot wait for Daddy big-mouth Wittstock gets to town. Conlene might keep him locked up so he don't ruined her scam.

Paca, this article in La Principaute magazine is the type of propaganda that the local Monaco media is publishing about Charlene's universal appeal, how she is so popular in Monaco and how the wedding will be a major economic boom. THis article is nothing but a big suck up blow job. What's difference in this article is than the others that I posted (on RoyalDish) is this time they are trying to back track in calling Charlene the New Grace. Previously, they wrote articles titled "Charlene , the New Grace." Can someone anyone please tell me whay the Monaco media thinks an uneducated ignorant non-working no skills broke ass lying woman should be praised for sticking by a billioniare prince's side and not leaving him for fours years until she got the ring? Anybody? Somebody? good lawd, these people are just too stupid for words! 2011 a historic year for Monaco La Principaute January 2011 ... this will be that of Albert and Charlene and not that of the son of Rainier and Grace Kelly in a new! Comparison is not right, it will be all the players in this marriage to bring out its own value and uniqueness. 2011 is not 1956. Certainly, once again his wife Monaco recovery time and the dream a universal appeal. But this is not the time to go out of the World War, the victorious American rebuilding of Europe, Hollywood and triumphant early days of television. 1956 is the wedding of the century in Monaco course, but also the shipment of Suez and the Hungarian uprising - the end of segregation in Alabama, the Melbourne Olympic Games - Bardot in "And God Created Woman" - "The Silent World" by Cousteau - Romain Gary, Prix Goncourt for The Roots of Heaven ... Another world, yesterday's world so close and yet so distant.
In 1956 we did not expect what we hoped in 2011 except one thing, only one, the happiness of those we love. Because expectations of 2011 are the priorities of the Sovereign Prince and his bride. The coexistence of peoples, we think of South Africa De Klerk and Mandela, the climate and environmental emergencies, the humanitarian commitment. All this in a globalized world, hyper communication and economic doubts.
A future princess already popular Clearly seen in our survey, Monaco and residents want about the joy of a couple who is part of their family of heart. But they hope that this event will also have positive consequences on the image of Monaco and its economy. Everything fits.
We can note that the Sovereign Prince marries a sport with African roots that shares his commitment to humanitarianism and the environment. A woman of her time at the side of a man of his time. A woman who is still at his side in recent years and has been able to prepare without fear. She helped in the discretion and has gradually emerge from the shadows to get the full day, when she felt ready. Proof of love, modesty and intelligence. We know it is appreciated by the Prince sisters and their children.
She knows the dangers that lie in wait, she has accepted. Prince Albert also knows that and he took his time. Nobody criticizes him more. But if her marriage is a private and personal matter, and the Monegasque residents are concerned by the image of the marriage. It's all of us who have, through our attitude and our love, protect the authenticity of the marriage of overexposure and unhealthy.
A unique opportunity to impose the true image of Monaco This is the condition of a successful event that will enable the best communication campaign to impose the true image of Monaco. A real country working in a quality of life certainly exceptional, but a country with a history, traditions and characteristics, and that is not a sanctuary for a few wealthy or a schedule of opaque financial institutions.
Nothing is perfect and of course Monaco is certainly not immune to all the tricks of international greed. But our country has the means to cope with sincerity and commitment and determination alongside the transparent democracies.
Towards a new attraction? None better than the couple of Monaco can not impose that truth remains largely unknown and the marriage must be the culmination of efforts of the Principality. Monaco and residents know well who hope a new dynamic and moral attractiveness. Even more tourists, more settlements, of expertise in all areas, more respect and notoriety for the role by a country like no other. The global reach of Monaco, with the Sovereign Prince, without comparison with its international weight reduces the population, territory or production.
This action will bring the Prince of Monaco on the occasion of marriage, a sympathy that will turn into a new attraction in all areas.
A new dream for the world and a new start for Monaco ... these are realistic vows in the new year

How can the Monegasques make it clear they want him, and not make it clear they don't want Whorlene? Exactly Donna. I have no sympathy for the people in Monaco because they just accepted the trash that Albert threw at the them in the name of the "new Grace." they do not accept it. You have to remember that the majority has grown up under Rainier who did not allow anyone to criticize him, his ruling, his family etc. they are not used to voice their opinion, nor are they used to being criticized. In Monaco and surrounding area, you are living in a bubble. It has nothing to do with the real world. I rarely go to Nice, but every single time I went, I bumped into someone I know and I can't say that I'm the most connected or popular person around. And you won't believe how much people are willing to accept or endure until it becomes too much. Rainier deprived his people of freedom of speech, but he looked after them. He was simply of the opinion that he knew best just like a father with his children. If as a parent you put your decisions up for opinion poll, you will soon have your kids running amok. It worked for him, but only because he gave them sth in return: prosperity and safety. that doesn't mean that people didn't complain, but in general and in comparison to their immediate neighbors they had a better life. This is no longer the case. They are still well off, but the difference between France and Monaco has become almost invisible. And things will be getting worse in the near future. Unfortunately Rainiers long reign has prevented a healthy culture of discussion and criticism. Everything still goes on rumours and leaks. Albert could have had a chance to change this by clearly pointing out that he is welcoming criticism as sth that can help a country grow and prosper. Here you have the same attitude as in China, Syria etc that if you allow criticism it means you are weak. nowadays it is true, but if Albert would have allowed it from the beginning and made clear that he would be using it to grow as a person and as a leader, thus turning it into sth positive, he would have become much stronger in his position. suppressing freedom of speech is in the long run not a sign of strength but of weakness. It is smarter to have your enemy advise you then your friend because he will point out all your flaws so you can work on them and become better in what you are doing. In that respect the trash is ahead of him: she likes reading the sugarboards for her ego, but the criticism received for her dresses etc resulted in her changing and getting better. I'm sure that at some point she asked her surgeon if they can do sth about her shoulders too

Paca, I am sorry that I keep moving your post, but you make some really good points that I want to discuss in this thread. The idea of the Sovereign Prince and those in Monaco not accepting criticism was a topic for an editorial in La Principaute magazine. Well, of course the editor did not mentioned the prince (don't forget no freedom of speech), but clearly the editor's advice is in reference to Albert also. The $7 million communication campaign and people being afraid to mentioned that it wasn't effective - it wasn't effective! Monaco hired a Parisian marketing firm to measure the results of the ad campaign and it had a recall rating of only 3% - that is only 3% of the people who even saw the ad could recall its meaning. That's a failure in anyone's book. So, now they are going to re do it believing that Albert and Charlene's made-for-tv wedding will be such a worldwide hit that they ad will have no meaning. Complete idiots! How we must measure the greatness of a country ... EDITORIAL La Principaute - January 2011
... Give them the opportunity to demonstrate their value, to ensure a peaceful future in the country.
But the greatness of a country, as well as its people, is measured as much in its ability to accept criticism and questioning themselves. In his final speech during the budget sessions, the president of the National Council has just quoted a phrase from Gustave Flaubert: "excessive criticism begets stupidity." It should also be added, drawing on Voltaire, the total lack of criticism leads to probably the most complete stupidity ... And yet, in Monaco, it was always difficult to accept criticism, taking them too often as "personal attacks "and very rarely as a constructive contribution. So, who makes a criticism becomes an enemy to defeat and the political debate turns into a battleground that serves only to défouloir personal frustrations ... we Frustrations personal views also appear in the debate on the budget vote primitive . The ghosts of SBM, ASM and IMS2 (just to name a few) were still present in the Chamber, and worry about the economic situation was palpable and widespread. But if one side begins to realize - as the major neighboring countries - the GDP is no longer able to represent himself, the health and well-being of a country, of On the other hand there is always the "small patrol doom" who can not see beyond the simple numbers ... Duly noted!
Meanwhile, critics have not spared the government's information campaign launched a month and a half earlier. Most of them have not been expressed openly, but - it must be said - especially in the scenes. The fear, perhaps justified, is that the message may pass unnoticed, without effective results. But it is obviously too early to express a definitive evaluation. Moreover, another "communication campaign" will begin in five months, with the royal wedding. Showcasing music, this time, he'll have to manage. Media disembark in number, and some of them will benefit, too - of course - for (it is also their role) criticize. It is better not to offer excuses by dragging a twenty-first century history of marriage in a drift-toned folk too. The risk, however, is there ...

Paca, thanks so much for your insider review!! I love your posts! Poor Monaco is doomed, and idk if monegasques deserve it...i guess not. Correct me if i'm mistaken, but they live in a tiny country where freedom of speech doesn't exist. They have to behave like sugars to be ok with everybody, when actually everybody don't stand Charlene at ALL. It's ridiculous how press says that she is the new Grace and that absolutely all Monaco loves her because is not true!!

I'm reposting this Jnauary 2011 La Principaute article that I had posted on RoyalDish. The article itself is creepy scary, I mean really creepy scary just how much certain people in Monaco believe that this wedding and Charlene's appeal will have a HUGE financial impact on Monaco and boost its image WORLDWIDE. I am speechless, really, I cannot even begin to summarize the article. They really believe that their Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock are the golden goose couple. It's amazing how much they use the pharse "all the world" will be watching, how much Charlene and appreciated and loved by Monaco, and they really try to pump up Charlene's accomplishment and how beautiful and get this - how INTELLIGENT she is. They want us to know how happy and in love their prince, his sisters, and their children are with Charlene. Why don't they just start bowing down to heir future Princess right now since they already think that she is God's savior for Monaco. I wonder how much their views have changed since January 2011. If all of this was to materialize because of Charlene and this wedding, Monaco would have seen some of the effects by now. Guy, the director of the fitness center states how close he has always been to the princely family (Princess Grace helped him) - and Prince Albert himself inaugurated his fitness center. He is happy to be close to the family, Monaco is lucky to be able to show the troubled world an image of happiness and beauty with their princely couple - Albert and Charlene will be wonderful ambassadors for Monaco.
Patrick, a cafe owner hopes that this wedding will create the same extraordinary aura as the 1956 wedding (Grace and Rainier's). He's convinced that the Prince's wedding will be one of strong emotions.
Christian, the honorary president of the bouliste club says they have waited for this wedding and this is true happiness for the Monegasques. He finds Charlene very appealing and reserved. He is especially excited that he remembers his parents wedding.

Paca, clearly your friends never ran across these people because they seem to LOVE their future Pricness Charlene! These people really, I mean really believe that this wedding is going to be the best thing that ever happened to Monaco since Rainier and Grace's wedding in 1956. The business are expecting millions of people to flock to Monaco after seeing the entire world views this wedding and sees their new beautiful princess Charlene. Guy of Teen and Co magazine states …We raise in this marriage modernism. This is a new basis on which Monaco is leaving,it announced new horizons. In addition they complement each other well. They are athletes, engaged in major humanitarian operations and are very active in the fight for the defense of nature, I think they will bring something new. In addition they areaccessible, very open and friendly. I wish them many children, this would be the highlight!
Blasie of the Monaco Taxis states finally they are marrying, we impatiently waited. I am happy for them and for Monaco. This will be a new opportunity for all the Monegasque taxis. This wedding is also a wonderful potential for all the tourist who aer going to arrive in July to participate in the event and to visit the principality and we are hoping that well remain all summer.
Claude a retirée of Green Space who has profound respect for the family states it is already a privilege for him to live to see two weddings because Monaco has given him a lot. He states, "After the death of Rainier and Grace, Monaco has lost something. It is essential to see a new princely couple at the palace and I can say that they are absolutely magnificent, they represent all the future of Monaco. And I'm sure the Principality will be new and in the same radiant mode. I feel a continuity. I have great confidence, it is the modern era. And Charlene represents a model for youth."

After reading those last testimonies, I believe that these people in Monaco really believe in this fairy tale. Look at the first person's face, Guy. He is proud as he holds up Albert and Charlene's photo and he loves Charlene. The poor taxi drive who probably barely makes a living believes that millions of tourist will be visting Monaco in July and staying the entire summer. But the absolutely worst Kool-Aid drinker is the retired Claude. This guy is a total true convert of the fairy tale fed to him these last five years. Plus, he believes that Charlene is a great role model for youth! Don't forget, there is no freedom of the press in Monaco - and the press has glossed over the real Charlene and presented this glossy manufacturered version. There will be no other version of who Charlene is presented in the Monaco press. Buchi, an antique shop owner on the palace square who has lived in Monaco for over 30 years states she is very happy for Monaco and this wedding is encouraging for the future of Monaco since the world will be watching.
Serge, a newspaper merchant on the Rock is very happy and is waiting impatiently like a child for the wedding - which is a new opportunity for Monaco's history.
Francesco, a restaurant owner states the princely couple often eat at his restaurant and they are nice are very close to the people. He is very happy for this wedding and he couple. Charlene is a young woman with a big heart, she is adorable, and speaks to everyone. He feels the wedding is going to rejuvenate and relaunch Monaco.

Oh, this poor people really believe that Charlene is the Saviour of Monaco.
The only Saviour Monaco has was Prince Rainier III. Albert and Charlene are the anthitesis of him. But well, they can't say it out loud, can they? They have to suck it up, pretend a fake smile, and be like "Princess Charlene is the best Princess Monaco has ever had!!!"
