The Minister of State announced yesterday very damaging news - the country's deficit is worse than expected - 96 million euros ($137,625,600) which is much greater than than 78 million euros ($111,820,800) deficit of last year. They are again asking everyone to be prepared for some drastic cuts. Well, everyone except Princess Charlene who cannot wait to wear her new tiara (one of two very expensive tiaras that she had especially made - not including the other pieces that she had made just for the wedding). Can you imagine that after the people hearing this news they will be faced with Prince Albert and Princess Charlene having another lavish party for 400 people. From Monaco Telecom:
State budget: the crisis still heavier
By B. Ulrich July 6, 2011
The government yesterday delivered the first digits of draft amending budget for 2011 on which the board. The verdict is final, the Principality has been hit hard by the crisis, the mini-boom seen the end of 2010 was not confirmed.
It's a bit cold shower after the excitement of the wedding festivities. The government yesterday presented its draft amending budget for 2011 and the least we can say is that it is not folichon. The deficit is 96 million instead of the original 94 million. In 2010, he was "only" 78 million. But the plot thickens when you consider that on that amount, 27 million was spent on redemption reserve fund constitutional grounds of the building Athena. So for 2010, is 58 million deficit. "The actual deficit has almost doubled," says Marco Piccinini, Government Counsellor for Finance and Economy in the columns of Nice-Matin. But optimizing the timing through the progress of projects - without challenging projects - helped to stem the numbers down. " So many projects will see their calendar spread or change. Like the market for mezzanine Condamine which will be delivered in a raw state, private entrepreneurs will make their own planning.
On the revenue side, they would be 779 million euros. Better than 2010 and 760 million altogether, but well below the original budget forecast which projected 843 million! Expenses have also lowered (phew!) And amounted to 875 million euros instead of 937 million planned.
In short, more than ever, the government will have to optimize costs while limiting them, an exercise of perilous balancing act that will not please everyone ...

"The actual deficit has almost doubled," ;D I LOVE IT WHEN WE'RE RIGHT (pat on backs to everyone ) it's sad for moronaco but if it helps Fatal and princess disgrace fall even quicker....so be it she's smart having that jewelry made, it's easily transported (i imagine minions are sewing diamonds in her corsets as we speak) and can be broken up to live on when he's just a millionaire and not a billionaire. that's what the media needs to be playing up how rich he is and how he's looting moronaco treasure JMO but if i know him he's laundering money through foundations and shadow companies. JMO if he's in business with the thugs i think he is, OH boy, going to jail could be the least that will happen to him. i hope the people turn on him when it comes out he's spent i'm sure over 100 million $$$$ on PR leading up to "the wedding that didn't matter" and after the millions being spent on parties and flying around honeymooning. i wouldn't doubt the moronaco chamber of commerce or he's figured out a way to make the IOC pay for this farce of a honeymoon. if she disappears we'll know she's being implanted at some clinic JMO

So, deficit is 96 million Euros and the wedding expanses were about 70 million Euros, right? Am I missing something? I think Monegasques deserve to be in this situation...maybe even a worse one....

I watched a report on CNN these days and I felt so sorry for the Monegasque people, the ones who were born and never left. One woman was showing her appartment, and the huge buildings that are being built next to hers. She said she will probably have to leave very soon because they want to build luxury buildings where she lives. There are so many tall buildings you almost don´t see the sun in some strees in Monaco. She has not so much money so as to buy those expensive flats. She wondered if "the Prince knows all this".
I think some citizens are not happy ovbiously, since real estate is one of the main businesses in Monaco, but the ones who benefit from it are the very rich foreigners.

IMO it showes just one more time that Albert is far away from home...

anyone think the new princess gives a rats ass about this OR even knows what a deficit is? and yes, her focus is to be "princess of fashion" in all her expensive designer clothes, sticking it more to the people out there, even in her own monegasque backyard, who may be struggling. class act charlene.
then you have michelle obama, and the duchess of cambridge who shop smart and economical and have made more of an impact on fashion than cw could ever dream to.

I have to tell you that michelle obama is NOT the person to have as an example. With the economy in the US the way it is, worse than in the Depression, the "first lady" is wasting more money than all the previous first ladies altogether.
Now, the Duchess of Cambridge, she is a different story. But, USA made a BIG mistake with the obamas. I know you love them in Europe, you can keep them :-)
Charlene of Monaco, I am disappointed with her. I thought she really loved Albert, until I saw the pictures you posted of her looking straight at the cameras in Turin. When I started dating my husband, I never saw anything or anybody around me!! It was just us two, so for a romantic like me, to see that, changed my opinion of her.

please, do share the financials regarding michelle obama and ALL the previous first ladies together. that's separating taxpayer money and personal finances used for expenditures and on exactly what. i'd love to see how much she's wasted compared to them all. thank you! p.s. this isn't meant to get into a u-s political discussion because that's where i draw the line on these boards. but since you brought it up is the only reason i'm asking -- thanks again!

He does and so does Valery who works for him. That was one of his main programs to get elected and reelected. Until Proust took care of him and got him into government. In any case I just got of an MC bus that ran over 3 bus stops without stopping until passengers where on the verge of revolution. And I couldn't help but think: it's the secret training camp

LOL I would have thought that the CLintons were the worst. I remember that at their parting time it was written that it had to be explained to them that the gifts they had received during office were gifts to the US and not to them personally. Then again Clinton left a tiptop household, which Bush managed to run down the drain in no time. It's not easy taking over a country in ruins. But then again he knew what he was in for and he wanted the job. His major mistake was to raise hopes too high. Albert did that too. It's the worst for any politician, no matter how good you are. If you promise and can't deliver, people end up hating you for it, even if things do get better. You need to keep realistic and keep people realistic. And most important: the best politics fail, when the people does not understand what and why you are doing sth. And on a side note it's been quite while since Europe, or at least some of Europe, has become disenchanted with Obama. He is now pretty much like all the other politicians. He is no longer the Messiah of politics. And that is good. The Messiah elsewhere....

Everyone, unless you are making a Monaco-related comparison to Monaco' budget crisis, please take all exclusive conversations of Michelle Obama, Presidents Obama, Clinton and Bushes to the Opine about anything non-royal! board. Creative comments and Boblin's first part of her comment were on topic - but when you make comments such as, "But, USA made a BIG mistake with the obamas. I know you love them in Europe, you can keep them ." - you have moved off topic of this thread and other thread about royals on Royal Opinions. Again, take it the the non-royal section of Royal Opinions and opine away.

Can't say that I see loads around. NOt mre then usual. Weather is fine and it's warmer then previous years, but doesn't look like business is picking up. I don't think they have a major exhibit in the Grimaldi Forum this year either. Last years wasn't a hit. I think that kids enjoyed it the most, but it wasn't really what I had expected.
