A Charming Prince Albert had guests eating out of his hand during his week in Durban while his new bride was moved to tears in Cape Town at a charity do.
The prince and his wife, former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock, cut short their honeymoon and yesterday returned to Monaco.
The newlyweds had a rocky start to their marriage as rumours swirled that the prince had fathered a third child out of wedlock and Princess Charlene had tried to flee Monaco before the nuptials.
The couple hosted a private cocktail reception on Thursday at the Oyster Box Hotel. They flashed smiles, held hands and kissed before joining 400 guests who included Princess Anne, tycoon Patrice Motsepe and first ladies Thobeka Madiba and Nompumelelo Ntuli.
In a short address, the prince greeted everyone with a ''sawubona".
''He added African colloquialism to his speech, which brought light humour," said a guest. "The crowd loved that he was embracing the Zulu culture."
Wearing a black and bronze beaded " mermaid" dress, the princess thanked the city for its hospitality.
The bash was described as an opulent and flawless "red-carpet evening" filled with "bling and lots of diamonds". There was a large white floral display in the main conference room, with lollipop roses and silver candelabra.
Municipal speaker Logie Naidoo said it was "a regal affair", with the couple's wedding photographs on display.
However, the prince flew solo on Friday evening when he attended a dinner to celebrate the end of the International Olympic Committee conference, held at the Sibaya Casino.
The princess spent the day in Cape Town at charity engagements with businesswoman and close friend Bridgette Radebe.
She assumed co-patronage of The Giving Organisation with Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
At the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation in the impoverished Masiphumelele township, she was moved to tears as Fezeka Gxwayibeni, 20, recite d a poem about the harsh realities of township life.
"I watched your wedding. Sometimes, when you are like me, you wonder when will the fairy come and see you, and tell you that everything is going to be okay," read the poem.
Meetings with World Wildlife Fund officials and the Choc Childhood Cancer Foundation were cancelled at the last minute.

Paca posted in Albert's advisors thread that General John Jayet, Albert's chamberlain, resigned on Friday night. Here's my post with the translated article. Does anyone think that these two events (if they did leave early) are true?

there's more twists and turns than Dallas and Dynasty put together, i thought it would be bad BUT who could predict this HOLEY MOLEY it's like the whole cosmos has turned on him, which is fair considering he's been skating for 53 years.
she's already cancelling charity functions, that's hint she's not serious about her role and demolishes the delusional sugahs "saint" crusade
i think this is another PR fail, they thought it was going to be all fairy lights and champagne and the cold reality is NOBODY cares NOT EVEN IN HER OWN country. US is going crazy for WillKat IMO because they are so in love and "real". NAHNAHNAH hey FATaL just think if you'd married a nice American you could be being followed by thousands of journalists.
hey conlene if you're reading this tell him >>>>>he's pathetic

Sounds like a serious staff shuffle is beginning. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if test results are in. There must be something going on that they need to get in front of before Monday.
God, this man is just ruining his family AND country. What a waste of space, and more-so, MONEY!!

If PA flew home alone does that mean she had to fly "commercial" all by herself during their honeymoon? But she followed him and missed her chance of escape if she ever had that in mind.

OMG, it does get better! City Press is reporting that Albert and Charlene slept in different hotels! The hotel even conformed that Charlene stayed and in a hotel suite at the Oyster Bay alone, while her hubby stayed iat the Hilton in Durban!
Royal couple slept apart
By: Staff reporter Sun, 10 Jul 2011
Prince Albert of Monaco and his new wife Charlene stayed in separate hotels on their recent visit to Durban, City Press reports.
The couple — who were married last weekend — arrived in Durban to hold a wedding reception at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks.
Initial reports suggested that the royal couple would be staying in the hotel's presidential suite. However, hotel spokesperson Joanne Hayes confirmed that Charlene stayed in the Buthelezi suite. City Press reports that Albert stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Durban — around 16km away.
The royal marriage has seemed doomed from the start, with reports surfacing that Charlene had tried to flee Monaco three times and return to South Africa before the marriage. Police reportedly confiscated her passport to keep her in the principality. Reports in the French media have suggested that Albert fathered a third love child during his five-year courtship with Charlene. Officials in Monaco confirmed that Albert is facing new paternity tests.
The couple cut short their South African visit and left on Friday, citing urgent business in Monaco as their reason for departure, claims City Press.

This is just getting worst. How is Charlene supposed to have an heir when Albert won't even sleep in the same hotel much less bed with her? A great scoop would be who did Albert sleep with at the Hilton?
Also, as mentioned, this talk that she didn't want to go through with the wedding may make good copy, but there is no truth in it. If Charlene was alone at the hotel, she was free to walk out and get a car back to Benoni. Also, if she flew back to Monaco without Albert, she could have just missed the plane. The only way that story will keep working is if we see big bodyguards next to her making her go certain places, and we don't. If Albert were smart (and he isn't), he would say Charlene wants her freedom, just as the press has reported, and give it to her with no payoffs. It is what she wanted, right?
Just another thought on this trip to South Africa for this nondynamic duo, I guess neither Caroline nor Stephanie nor any of their children went to South Africa for that wedding celebration? I noted that one of Charlene's brothers was in one photo. I think Stephanie needs to beware because now that Charlene has the title, she doesn't need to support of the little sister. I think that if the sisters were truly happy about this, they would have flown to SA to support the newlyweds at their SA wedding reception.

The original scoop came from the City Press article - others are just citing this article. What's really funny is that Conlene is probably reading all the sympathetic press toward her and really believes that she can do fine on her own now. Please read the Vanity Fair article (if you haven't, read in this post) that I posted about their advice to Charlene called about Team Charlene. Conlene has really does believe her own manufactured press. But, if you noticed the photo that City Press chose for their article - it really doesn't put Charlene in a sympathetic light - more look a cunning bitch light. Oh, City Press said the same thing that we did - Charlene looked happier hugging Bishop Tutu than her own husband!
Kiss of death for fairytale?by Gavin Prins 10 July 2011
It was supposed to be their fairytale honeymoon in Africa, but Princess Charlene slept alone in a bedroom 16km from her prince.
Charlene Wittstock, now Princess Charlene of Monaco, arrived in Durban this week with Prince Albert to host a wedding reception for South African friends and dignatories who could not make it to Monaco.
The reception was at the swanky Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban.
It was widely reported that the royal couple would be staying in the presidential suite, at R25 000 per night.
However, it has been confirmed by hotel spokesperson Joanne Hayes that Princess Charlene stayed in the Buthelezi suite (R10 600 per night).
Prince Albert stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Durban.
This royal marriage has seemed doomed from the start. Shortly before the wedding last week, reports surfaced that Charlene had tried three times to flee the principality and return to South Africa.
Reports in the French media suggested Prince Albert had recently fathered a third child out of wedlock, despite the fact that he was engaged to Charlene since 2006.
Officials in Monaco confirmed that Albert was facing new paternity tests.
The couple attended a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Durban and on Thursday night hosted a gala ceremony to celebrate their nuptials.
However, when they met President Jacob Zuma they arrived in the same car but left in two separate vehicles.
At Zuma’s residence, they met with the president for 30 minutes and then reappeared for pictures.
Zuma jokingly told Prince Albert he had not paid lobola, and said while he could not attend the wedding, the private meeting had more than made up for it.
When photographers urged the royal couple to kiss, it was another of those awkward moments – Charlene turned her head away and Prince Albert ended up giving her a peck on the cheek.
Pictures of Charlene taken this week showed an unhappy woman who rarely smiled. The only time she showed real delight was when Archbishop Desmond Tutu hugged her.
Charlene and Albert cut short their South African stay on Friday, citing urgent business in Monaco as their reason.

There is one comment to the City Press article. The poster is correcting some info about the background of Albert and Charlene's relationship that the reporter provided. What I find funny about this is this is what sugar loonies do to dismiss an entire article (which provides negation revealing information) is to find one thing that they may have gotten wrong in he article as a reason to discredit all the new information as pure speculation and lies. For the reporter, the news is that they slept apart, they then try to fill up the article with background info. Dijon - July 10, 2011 at 09:04 i wish you could get your facts straight, they met in 2000, were seen publicly at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino but had met up the previous December for New Years in Cape Town. They only got engaged last June 2010.

Separate hotels? On your "honeymoon"? Really???
Oh yeah, and I read that somewhere too, suite583, (can't remember where) that they were supposed to go to Bali right after SA, but I guess that got squashed with "urgent business" back home... Geez, what a mess in Monaco!! This whole wedding to-do was just a big FAIL!

So, an annulment on non-consumation?
What newlywed couple sleeps in separate hotels?
What urgent business? Positive DNA tests? Filing for divorce?

even though this is their honeymoon, this behavior of theirs is nothing new. Just for some shocking because they are married BUT if you look at their track record all these years and the impersonal way they deal with each other we should have expected this. as for them cutting out early looking forward to see if it has to do with jayet or something else. Princess Caroline must be enjoying this. I have always felt she's known this thing was a sham and would fall apart sooner rather than later, thus her silence and "playing" along with this sham. I'm sure the sugar loonies will say CW is so dedicated to her charity work she HAD to stay in her own hotel to focus.

I have so many thoughts about this racing through my head, I don't even know this is the right thread so post. If it isn't, sorry! OK, cutting the honeymoon short to go back to MC has to do with Jayet leaving. This has to be enormous in impact. For stupid Assbert to understand the implications of JJ's departure and want to return, it has to be obviously big. Otherwise, it would have been lost on Assbert. And it wasn't (let alone that JJ waited to Assbert to be out of the country to resign) That they slept in separate hotels does not surprise me. If there was ever sexual passion between them, I always had the impression that it fizzled out long ago. And I always thought pictures where - in the past - that they were kissing, etc - it was Conlene's marking her territory and showing other women that she was "in". What is surprising is that, after "investing" a luscious budget on the wedding circus, they are not protecting the investment by pretending they're hot for each other. How hard is to get a room in the same hotel that splits inside in 2 separate suites? Unless things between are very, very strained that they don't even want to be in the same place if they don't have to. All I can say is... I'm salivating for more!
