I think it rained last Wednesday...or at least the last week the weather wasn't great. In any case in order to get at the number I have given before per year they would have tohave an average of 1800 per day. Considering that summer holidays are always busier and holidays in general get numbers up, i find none of these numbers outrageous. If they had 10000 people every day, I'd say there is sth going on, but one day there are heaps the next none....no big deal. Tourists decide according to the weather. On a good day after several bad one you won't find anyone in a museum. If you have constant good weather you have less fluctuation in numbers, a constant dribble. Bad weather in summer is more likely to get people go to the museum. As was the case last year, which was not such a brilliant summer. They still make it sound as if Hirst was the huge draw to warrant for the millions they spent on the exhibit...

Thanks Paca. If this is normal numbers for the museum, then that's understandable. I guess my problem is that they are attributing these numbers to the wedding exhibit instead of the museum.

they did the same with Hirst. you need to put these numbers into perspective. The exhibit is supposed to go till November. Lets see how the museums numbers all over the year changed in comparison to previous years. And there is not much you hear about the other exhibition, which grants the Grimaldi forum the major chunk of the cultural budget each year. It seems to be a major flop considering. The Africa exhibit gave MC a buzz at the time. Chirac and even the Beckhams went to see it. ANd it was really interesting. Not only the exhibit but also the offers they had for children. We were down there almost every day at the time. Last year was IMO a bit bla, but enjoyable for kids. They could have done much better. Also with regards to lightening. It was way too dark. This years I haven't seen and no intention to go. Boring topic. It would have been more interesting, if they had to hang on the coat tails of the wedding, if they would have stuck with the city theme they had started and picked an SA city, reflecting on the past and present culture, pointing towards the future... a bit like the Africa exhibit but more concentrated. trashy could have learned sth about her own country

So, by July 27th, the exhibit had 74 000 visitors and now they have had their 100,000th visit. Of course they are selling it as people are only buying the tickets to see the wedding exhibit as opposed to the museum. I am still not buying the numbers. Albert is desperate to show his people that his wedding is attracting tourists to Monaco as he promised them the entire year leading up to the wedding. If this many people - on average 3700 daily - are visiting the museum shouldn't Monaco's other attractions, restaurants, shops , etc. see at least some impact form these visitors. Also, every photo of the actually exhibit only show a few visitors where are the photos of the thousands of people (hundred an hour) visiting this exhibit? Where are they? From Monte Carlo News:

yup, considering that people are pressing to see this, the pics are rather empty. But wait netx time they will rent a crowd. On another thought, it might just be that these were the 100.000 visitors this year...then they would be in deep trouble....

Here is a blog entry from master students just arriving to study in Monaco. They took a trip to see the Oceanographic Museum and was surprised (albeit pleasantly) to see the wedding exhibit there. I suspect their experience is probably the norm - meaning people are visiting the museum in record numbers to see the world famous museum and not Albert and Charlene's wedding exhibit. But, Monaco is too stupid to sell their more prized attractions, they would rather spew propaganda that people are coming in record numbers to see the so-called wedding of the century as deemed by Albert's own people.

We are finally (somewhat) connected with the outside world! We have not had any internet or phone accessibility since our arrival here in Monaco, unless we paid $1 A MINUTE – thanks AT&T for offering the ultimate crappiest international plan!
We arrived on Friday afternoon to our beautiful villa overlooking the French Riviera. Our English speaking realtor was late meeting us here but our sweet, elder landlady brought us into her place (she lives below) and gave us a warm welcome. Although she does not speak a lick of English, I know she loved J and I thanks to her warm hugs and kind gesture of sharing some tomatoes and cucumbers from her garden. She is the cutest thing and J and I are thoroughly looking forward to spending more time with her.
I have to say that the biggest adjustment (and torture to J) is not having air conditioning. Oh how you appreciate the little things we take for granted when you don’t have them anymore. Needless to say our first major purchase was 2 fans
We have explored a lot of Monaco already but there is always more to see. We went to their famous oceanography museum where they oddly, yet luckily, were displaying the breathtaking wedding dress and attire recently worn by the newlywed Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco. What a treat!!
Our only internet source at the moment is from our Monagasque cell phone so updates may be sparse for the next 2 weeks. Missing all back home!!!

So what you are saying, MyaDia, is that Charlene could have put her exhibit over in the Grimaldi Forum with the other royal exhibits, but she knew that the Ocean Museum is the most popular in Monaco so she glommed on to it and pushed her exhibit in with the marine things, even though the wedding has nothing similar to what the Ocean Museum normally exhibits. So visitors who truly want to see the exhibits that the Ocean Museum has, have to see fewer things so that Charlene can get an attention fix. Once again, Albert and Charlene have to glom onto what someone has accomplished through hard work. How pathetic.

Albert and Charlene will throw Monaco under the bus just to save their narcissistic face when it comes to this farcical $70,000,000 wedding (some estimates). Again, the headlines is not that people are flocking to Monaco'a most prestigious and well-known tourist attraction, but people are flocking to Monaco to see Albert and Charlene's wedding photos and trinkets. The government is supposed to release their findings form the economical benefit form the wedding in September, so of course these headlines are part of the propaganda for the success of the wedding - which they deemed successful even before the study began. Here's the headline from Monaco Telecom:
200,000 visitors to the "History of the Royal Wedding"
By B. Ulrich August 30, 2011
Open to the public since 9 July, the exhibition presented by Stéphane Bern "History of the Royal Wedding" to discover the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco until November 22, 2011, passed on Tuesday the milestone of 200,000 visitors. Wedding dress and tiara, the uniform of the Prince, the car with its hybrid technology, invitations, unpublished photographs, the sketches of designers, various symbolic objects or gifts, including those of Monaco, all of which have captivated audiences came in droves. A success story that shows if necessary enthusiasm for the event of the year in the Principality!

I guess these visitors number at the museum is the only thing that they can manipulate and control as an indicator of success for the wedding. Shouldn't we be reading stories from all he shop and restaurant owners who can attest to all the tourists who are coming in asking for more about Albert and Charlene and spending all their money in Monaco? Here's the headlines from the Tourism's office website - Visit Monaco:
The exhibition has attracted 200,000 visitors in 50 days
30/08/2011
The exhibition "The Story of the Princely Wedding," which has been open to the public at Monaco's Oceanographic Museum since 9 July 2011, reached the 200,000 visitor mark today. It runs until 22 November 2011.
What is there to see?
This exhibition, presented by Stéphane Bern, was designed as a journey on which visitors can relive the magic of the celebrations - they can almost reach out and touch items such as the wedding dress, the bride's tiara, H.S.H. the Prince's uniform, the hybrid car, invitations, previously unpublished photographs, sketches by decorators, various symbolic objects and wedding presents, including presents from the Monegasque people.
Why at the Oceanographic Museum?
It was a natural choice for T.S.H. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene to choose this location for the exhibition. H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince is very attached to the Oceanographic Museum, which was created by his great-grandfather Prince Albert Ist, and his mission to promote a love of the oceans, make them better understood and protect them. H.S.H. Princess Charlene is also very committed to protecting the oceans. It was not a chance decision.
"The Story of the Princely Wedding" can be seen at Monaco's Oceanographic Museum until 22 November 2011. Admittance is from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm on presentation of an entrance ticket at the Museum.

Monaco's Tourism Director stated that Monaco is trying to attract young families with young children as part of their campaign. Is anyone surprised that both the 100,000 visitor (see this post with photos ) and the 200,000th visitors were both a young family with two kids - a boy and a girl? If you believed that these people were chosen at randonm and were the ACTUAL 100,000th and 200,000th visitors than I have a bridge in New York that belongs to my family that I am willing to part with and sell to you. From the Musée océanographique :
"HISTORY OF THE ROYAL WEDDING," THE EXHIBITION HAS ATTRACTED 200,000 VISITORS IN 50 DAYS Open to the public since July 9, the exhibition
"History of the Royal Wedding" to discover the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco until November 22, 2011, today took the course of 200,000 visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Drijfhout from Holland with their children had a good surprise by crossing the doors of the Museum [/b]

well, considering how many visitors they claim to have had during their first days of the exhibit, I'd say numbers are already going down. Holidays are almost over in France, so can't wait for the September numbers.

Maybe they are jealous that Kate and Wills wedding is a record guinness... I've read in a forum that someone hear on the radio that 1/4 of the World Population saw the wedding live.

LOL these 2 are lucky if 1/4 of the population of MC watched it. But honestly I think these 2, but especially TC, have great issues with Kate catching all the limelight. They just can't bare being only an afterthought in the media. Even Bunte seems to slowly fade them out. They still keep writing things, but they do read the comments they are getting and it must be dawning on them that they were betting on the wrong horse. Still they are hesitating on tearing them down. Wonder why. They don't mind doing it to others.

^It's like we predicted: everybody will slowly tearing them down. It alrealdy began with the L'Express article. BTW, what happened with that? And biggest Charlene and Albert's butt kisser of all time was at the wedding exhibition with "the good news" (at last ) of an official souvenir book to commemorate the wedding and the exhibition of photos at the Oceanographic museum(i just copied and past this last from the sugah forums...) www.nicematin.com/article/derniere-minute-monaco/stephane-bern-a-monaco-sur-les-traces-du-mariage-princier

I happen to think it's the funniest, most telling thing that they should have empty vestments for an exhibit. Kind of says it all about their shallowness! And let's face it (no pun intended), it's not a little macabre. Though it may be for practical reasons since Commoner Charlene's face might keep changing too often to actually be recognizable from one time to the next.
