Interesting that it's JB who is representing the family and not Chris Levine who is closer to Fat Al. Any ideas, Hibou? Perhaps Chris' wife doesn't want him associated with this mess?

The reporter's snarky comments about Charlene in this article is why I feel that the Bendigo art gallery is smart not to focus on Charlene to attract people to the exhibit for the three months. Her husband will not be there for the March 10 opening of Grace Kelly: Style Icon, as he has been invited by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to attend an ''unmissable'' environmental conference in France.
Princess Charlene, Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, made headlines in June when she was detained at Nice airport trying to flee on the eve of her wedding. On July 1, she and Albert were married.
... Organisers of the Bendigo exhibition hope that a member of the Kelly family will also attend the opening.
Members of the Monaco royal family, meanwhile, simply hope that Princess Charlene will come home. LOL the fleeing bride story for eternity. So John Kelly has been enlisted to babysit her? I guess they need the Kelly name there so people will get the connection?

Taking a guess I would say that Vicky and Chris are tired of the circus. Bob McNeil and his wife spent a lifetime building the McNeil family name. Charlene doesn't fit with the program. I can't imagine that Vicky would want to be around this whole mess. Chris probably is conflicted with his loyalties as he is proud to be a Kelly and nephew of Grace. This has to be embarrassing. JMO.

Charlene alone won't make it and they know it. Exactly. A family member who can put a coherent sentence together is needed!

Charlene is not going to go to Australia and waste her greatness JUST on the small town of Bendigo. According to this Herald sun article, Charlene is stopping in Melbourne first for a private dinner with the Mayor's wife (in my opinion, so she can be sucked up to in big time proper style that a true princess deserve). Actually, her stop in Melbourne and attending parties really diminishes the hard work, time and promotion that Bendigo has invested in this exhibit. Seriously, this town has gone all out for this exhibit even having the taxpayer underwrite some of it. If she wants to show off in style in Australia's second largest city and visit family and relatives there, then do it after the big reveal in Bendigo - NOT BEFORE.
Secret dinner fit for a princess at town hall
by Fiona Byrne February 25, 2012
THE countdown is on until Monaco's Princess Charlene touches down in Melbourne next month for the opening of the Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition.
The princess, who wed Monaco's Prince Albert in July, will launch the exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery on Saturday, March 10, in the only official function of her brief visit to Australia.
She will arrive in Melbourne several days before the gala occasion, with Lady Mayoress Emma Page Campbell hosting a private dinner for her at the Melbourne Town Hall on Friday, March 9.
The gathering is so cloaked in privacy that yesterday the Mayor's office would not confirm the event was taking place.
The elegant blonde, who as Charlene Wittstock represented South Africa at the Olympics, has friends in Melbourne, including a former swimming coach and top Australian swimmer Sophie Edington.
Edington, an ambassador for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave, was a guest at the royal wedding. "I am obviously looking forward to her coming out here in March so we can catch up on some proper gossip," Edington said while launching the World's Greatest Shave.

There are a few things that Charlene and the Mayor's wife, Emma Page Campbell, have in common. Below are some earlier photos of her taken during her pre-marriage (2009) public life with the Mayor, her then 20 year older fiancee. They finally married last June in New York City after living together/dating for five years. She has polished her image very well, including now wearing glasses in public. But, this woman is educated, she is an intellectual property attorney. Plus, she kept quiet about their relationship. Here's a Herald Sun article where she confides how she met the mayor. I was drawn to the Lord Mayor: Emma Page Campbellby Robyn Riley August 28, 2010
ROBERT Doyle's fiancee has confessed to some modern pre-dating manoeuvres - she "Googled" the Lord Mayor before agreeing to go out with him.
In her first interview, Emma Page Campbell, 36, said she turned to technology because she wanted to learn more about Mr Doyle, 57, and to learn whether he was divorced.
He was. Mr Doyle and former wife Jenny had parted amicably the previous year.
In a candid interview in today's Sunday magazine, Ms Campbell said friend Jane Perton - former wife of ex-Liberal MP Victor Perton - was matchmaker.
"She asked me if I would consider dating an older man," she said. "I said 'yes', so she asked how about if he was quite a bit older and I said, 'That depends'."
Ms Campbell said she was drawn to Mr Doyle because he made her laugh.
The intellectual property lawyer, who works at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, said they have not set a wedding date.
Mr Doyle, who she described as a romantic, said it would be great to elope.
Ms Campbell said she didn't mind because, although she loves weddings, all the fuss and being the centre of attention, "makes me a little bit awkward".
The couple, who recently bought their first house together, share their home with Emma's dog, Poppy.
They had not spoken publicly about their five-year relationship.
"When I met Emma, I couldn't believe my luck," Mr Doyle said.
Initially the couple kept their relationship private. Ms Campbell said she was quite cautious about how people might react to their age difference.
On the surface, Mr Doyle - Melbourne's Lord Mayor since 2008 - and Ms Campbell appear very different.
Where she is softly spoken and private, he is, at times, controversial, but always passionate: the very public face of Melbourne.
But then they say opposites attract.

There is something misleading with the director claiming that tickets for the opening, in which Charlene will attend, sold out in 3-hours. According to a member of the art gallery (who wanted to attend), there didn't seem to be a public moment to actually buy tickets to the opening. In my experience, openings with high profile guests are normally filled by offering offering invitations to a select guest list first before it is opened to the general public. It seems to me that they are trying to drum up attention and get more people to by tickets to the exhibit during the three months, which there is nothing wrong with this strategy. From the Bendigo Advertiser:
Bendigo Art Gallery members to get iconic preview
by HANNAH KNIGHT 25 Feb, 2012
MEMBERS of the Bendigo Art Gallery will be treated to a special preview of the upcoming Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition.
Bendigo Art Gallery director Karen Quinlan announced yesterday members would be invited to view the exhibition from 10am to 2pm on March 10.
“This will be prior to the official launch and is in light of the fact that not all members can attend this special occasion,” she said.
The Bendigo Advertiser reported yesterday the exhibition opening had reached “fever pitch”.
The exhibition opening booked out in just three hours on Thursday.
Tickets are, however, still available to Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition.
“It’s just the official opening that’s booked out,” Ms Quinlan said.
“There has never been a response like this.
“It’s important that we point out this is an exhibition that has been organised by the Bendigo Art Gallery in association with various stake holders including the state government, the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
“And as such, there are a number of major stakeholders involved. Gallery membership has grown, we have about 1500 members, and while their support is important to the gallery, the capacity of events such as the exhibition opening is about 600 people.”
New royal Princess Charlene of Monaco will visit Bendigo next month to officially open the exhibition. Grace Kelly: Style Icon will be at the Bendigo Art Gallery from March 11 to June 17.
“We’ve already sold about 7500 tickets,” Ms Quinlan said.
“It’s going to be great for the city.
“It’s fantastic.”

Below is a letter that was written by two members of the Art Gallery to the Bendigo Advertiser about the above article. I understand the Director's strategy - try to get as many high profile people to come as possible, which will increase the publicity and hopefully encourage others to buy tickets. This strategy is a good one if she is hoping that people in Melbourne will make the couple of hours trip to Bendigo. However, she needs to be careful that she doesn't alienate the locals who may end up being the bulk of the exhibit's visitors for the next three months.
Members not given chance to attend opening February 28, 2012 Tuesday
Like so many other Bendigo Art Gallery members, we were looking forward to receiving our invitation to the opening of the Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition. Our invitation arrived on Friday, and as soon as I opened it I rang the gallery to make our booking.
This was at 4.30 on Friday afternoon.
I was very disappointed to be told that the opening was already booked out, and that Bryan and I would be put on a waiting list.
Then, in talking to some of our friends, I discovered that they had done exactly as we did, with the same unfortunate result.
Then, on Saturday, I read the article ''Members to get iconic preview'', in which Karen Quinlan is quoted as saying: ''The exhibition opening booked out in just three hours on Thursday.''
Thursday? This struck me as odd.
Was there something wrong with the timing of the mail-out of invitations?
Ours was postmarked February 22, which was Wednesday.
I suppose I should congratulate the fortunate ones who received theirs so quickly that they were in a position to make their booking during those three hours on Thursday.
So much for an RSVP date of March 6!
The article also states that ''members would be invited to view the exhibition from 10am to 2pm on March 10'', which is prior to but on the same day as the official launch and which, according to Karen Quinlan, is because ''not all members can attend this special occasion'.
Sorry, Karen, but I do not think this is good enough.
If members are invited between 10am and 2pm, is this also an official gallery function, or is it an afterthought?
And if this viewing is for members, then who are the people attending the actual opening with Princess Charlene in the evening?
Do the ''stakeholders'' Karen Quinlan mentions have some influence here?
Given the huge amount of prior publicity for the Grace Kelly exhibition, surely the gallery could have foreseen this level of interest and made more appropriate arrangements.
For example, why not, as for some previous exhibitions, organise more than one evening opening?
Even if Princess Charlene could attend only one of the evenings and some members were unable to go on that occasion, I am sure the princess would be forgiven if members at least had the opportunity to attend a proper opening event on another evening.

LOL I am sorry but what is the mayor wearing a tag just above his crown jewels? All in all the woman looks pretty trashy. They look like a very provincial couple, getting their pics taken the way they think is stylish, but makes them look like utter fools... trashy will fit right in. I love small towns and I am rooting for Bendigo that the Grace exhibit will be a success. For the final days leading up to the exhibit opening featuring the presence of Charlene, the local media in Bendigo has released a series of article - many of them predicting the economical benefits and high number of tourists they expect. In this Bendigo Advertiser article they are forecasting that "Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition could bring $10 million to Bendigo." “It is going to be a massive weekend for Bendigo, particularly through the Grace Kelly exhibition, which is going to give our city terrific publicity,” City of Greater Bendigo city futures director Stan Liacos said.
“It could be one of the biggest events that Bendigo has ever seen when you consider there will be between 75,000 and 100,000 visitors – that’s the entire population of Greater Bendigo.
“It is more than an exhibition and the fact that we have Princess Charlene and Premier Ted Baillieu coming, it will attract national and international headlines.”
Mr Liacos said about 70 per cent of visitors to the exhibition would be from outside Greater Bendigo, providing $10 million for the town.

“It is more than an exhibition and the fact that we have Princess Charlene and Premier Ted Baillieu coming, it will attract national and international headlines.”However, the remark made by a newscaster at the end of this video of an Australian ABC News broadcast (at time 3:20) about the Grace exhibit throws a wrench in their belief that Charlene is an sure draw for international or even national attention. The broadcast includes an interview with the John B Kelly. The male and female newscaster introduce the interview in the beginning and then make final remarks afterward. Female newscaster: John Kelly, Grace Kelly's nephew who is in Australia for the opening in Bendigo of that collection as well as Princess Charlene who is in town for that as well.
Male newscaster: Who is Princes Charlene?
Female newscaster (laughs): Prince Albert of Monaco's wife.
Male newscaster: Right, oh, ok.

Hahaha...they sure made a great impression in the Oscars. The Male newscaster doesn't even know who she is. As most people don't. When is this woman going back to reality that nobody cares about her and nobody know who she is?

I wish this exhibition to be successful, because I don't want this small town in Australia, that hopes to gain so much from this event, to lose. Another reason I wish this event a success is Grace, I want people to admire & appreciate her achievements. In regard to Charlene, oh well, she will spoil the whole event, although I know that many people would want to see 'real princess'. Some, more sophisticated visitors/guests will be disappointed seeing Charles, but some, more simpleminded or paying less attention will be thrilled, especially if they would see Charles from distance, they may not see her plastic alternations and mistake her for real woman.
