Funny but I don't recall Albert ever wearing a traditional costume from his home country. Anyone ever remember seeing him in one? Yep: 2007 2008 2010

this is a made up costume, just like his uniform. the costumes of the folk groups are inspired by those of folk groups in the area.

No not really. There are lots of folk groups in PACA. if you look at their traditional costumes you will notice a strong resemblance to what you see in MC. Folk is usually sth that is more rooted in the countryside, sth that is important in villages. In MC it is done to have sth too. MOnegasques only speak Monegasque because they have to. It is taught in school. Nissarde is not taught in schools, still people speak it and pass it on. There would be a handful of spekers in MC, if Rainier would not have intervened. Rainier liked the traditional songs. That's why some were sung during the funeral. He thought it was important to have traditions in a country. He used this to tie the Monegasque together and ultimately to him. Albert only goes there because he goes everywhere. I don't think that he really understands Monegasques that well either. On occasion he uses phrases as he knows that the Monegasques like that, but he is not really into it. That's why trashy tried to say Vive MC in French during her wedding to endear herself, but she should have said it in Monegasque. She still thinks that people will admire her for learning French. But as a Monegasque Princee she would have to learn the local language to impress people. And that one is only known inside MC. Outside they speak a different one: Provencal in the rural areas and Nissard in Nice.

Too bad Albert could care less and Charlene is to dumb to figure it out. JMO.
