The Cannes Film Festival is on, with a gorgeous billboard of Catherine Deneuve presiding over the steps. My early faves: Brie Larson wore an interesting Chanel armour over gown, so honourable mention there. But Dame Helen Mirren is the blue queen, Uma is regal with her overcoat over understated gown and Catherine Zeta-Jones looks better than she has in a while. I love the gradient tones of red. ๐๐ผ

There's an interesting parallel here between Vivienne Westwood and Franรงoise Gilot, on the heels of theirs and Claude Picasso's passings. To Westwood's credit, her revisionism of history didn't involve the state, a foreign power's intelligence service and a character assassination "tell-all" written by a ghost writers to attack her children's father based on her racism and his political affiliation. No. Westwood stuck to the creative rivalry that we also find with Gilot albeit with less talent. And the only state participation was a whitewash at the V&A. They didn't steal his collection or violate his last wishes after killing every natural heir - surviving legal spouse and offspring. www.standard.co.uk/insider/vivienne-westwood-malcolm-mclaren-young-kim-fashion-b1102969.htmlwww.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/aug/25/claude-ruiz-picasso-youngest-son-death-76This quote is maybe where Westwood and Gilot differ the most. Gilot for all her bile, presumed ownership over Picasso's work and sold him out so she would finally control the man.
