I do think Felipe and Letizia would make a remarkable King and Queen, but I do fear that there is an agenda to bring the monarchy down. Of course JC and Inaki contribute a lot for this, but why is there not the same amount of pressure in other monarchies? I´m very usre everyone of them has skeletons in their closet.

There's probably more pressure because its royal family has always taken a moral and religious high ground, so it makes it more sport for the human composters out there to watch them fall from a great height. When you think also of some of Spain's brutal repression in the 19th century and again under Franco, today's pressure has an intrinsic violent element to it so the fall would be equally brutal to the passion for punishment that it displayed in the past, going back to Canovas. I'm afraid they loaded the deck for a downfall. Its the pendulum swing. They would have to do a brilliant about-face if they were creative enough but beleaguered as they are by their lack of amends for the past - I mean, there's even an arrogance to housing Picasso's Guernica in a royal museum when Spain conspired to kill the guy and Picasso's family was antimonarchy - that ultimately, they will have cursed themselves. I'm sorry to say but maybe there simply aren't enough redeeming things about Spain to keep the monarchy from imploding.

in this context some interesting side note on Letizia. Apparently there was an invite after the pope election for the cardinals in the Spanish embassy. Letizia ignored all guests and was on her moile all the time. When she finished, she went to Felipe and asked to leave. SHe is said to be bored. Also Felipe is said to be pulling long faces on official pictures. So this looks like even the Royals are not really into monarchy anymore. There is also an interesting part, which states why the monarchy will stay for now. Not because they like the Royals, but because of the voting system, which none of the parties at present would wish to be changed. Well, IMO these things are no longer matters of what the parties want but what the people want. And when the people on the street want to get rid of the Royals, then eventually that is what will happen. WHo knows what offshore leaks reveals on top of what Spanish justice already knows.... IMO a lot of people these days are not sleeping well. It is the age of aquarius after all ;D www.spiegel.de/panorama/vorladung-fuer-prinzessin-cristina-tiefpunkt-fuer-spanisches-koenigshaus-a-892421.html

I read this story is from a guy who always trashes Letizia and when he attended this event, he was miffed that she wasn´t super friendly with him. So yeah, I question the credibility of this story Unlike the other CPss, she gets regularly attacked. The many Royal Forums in Spanish are hateful towards her, calling her a whore etc. If she is sick from all that, I can understand it. It´s similar to Kate, but since she is a former journalist, I´m sure she is more aware of it. Plus the stress with JC and Cristina, doesn´t makes one very happy.

an update on how badly things look for Cristina and her hubby. They are asking 17 years prison and it looks like they tried pretty hard to cover things up. If they get what they are asking then IMO things are looking pretty bad for all of them. Juan Carlos is obviously protected, but he tried to help hushing things up and condemning Cristina would be like acknowledging it IMO the situation of the country considered I really don't think that an abdication would help them as Felipe has not shown anywhere in the past how he would make things different then his father. And if I am not mistaken Letizias engagement ring was purchased with a credit card from the company that Cristina and her husband defrauded... so maybe there will soon be a royal household less... www.sueddeutsche.de/panorama/spanische-infantin-bestreitet-schuld-koeniglich-korrupt-1.1884943

well, I have to say that they are certainly not themost attractive Royals. They certainly don't age well... the little girls are cute though. Maybe they needed some common blood to get some attractiveness into their DNA...

It's official: king Carlos abdicated. Good move. Good timing. Whether it'll bring Spain around when they've tried to become a republic for 200 years, we shall see. Bye Carlos!

Bye Carlos!so the timing for his controversial mistress, Princess Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein to sashay to Monaco (and teach tricks to Trash) was perfect.

I would say less her, more Albert. Wasn´t he angry that W&K got engaged? I mean the whole marriage thing just happened because he thought it´s good pr.

I don't think that the press coverage of the coronation of Felipe will "interfere" much with the birth of the twins. I've read that they'll pass the new law concerning the coronation within 3 or 4 weeks so it can easily take place in September. With Beatrix it was also 3 months from the announcement to the coronation. If Felipe is crowned at all that is with all the protesting going on...

Yes, there's a lot going on in Spain right now. It has been said that this or next week the coronation will take place...if it takes place at all. But still, the whole political situation of the country and the future of the monarchy there is more important and relevant news in the world's politics than a plastic bimbo consort expecting the heir(s) of a teeny tiny Principality almost no-one gives a damn about.
In Spain there will be repercussions, no matter what happens. Charlene's babies is a happy little news for her sugars. Rest of the people couldn't care less.
