I suppose that's why Rainier was so opposed to the women Albert dragged home. They were all the likes of trashy and her lot and he never would have allowed any of them in the palace unless as paying tourists. Rainier knew who his son was. That's why he wanted him to have a different kind of woman by his side. He should have just acknowledge when Albert was 40 that his son was unfit for the job and changed the constitution either to become a constitutional monarchy or put it on the road for Europe. I believe the decisions of his last years were pointing towards Europe rather then a constitutional monarchy. There were heaps of European officials coming along at the time And I think when he changed the constitution and also made the change for the property of the palace etc, he was realizing that the best for his country would be becoming a full member of the EU even if that meant to give up rights of the prince. I think it was clear to him that Caro did not want the job either for her or her kids. ANd I think that as much as he loved his grandkids, I don't think he saw any of them doing the job either. IMO at the end of his life, when he was getting his house ready he acknowledged his mistake with Albert and did his best to prevent the worst. Had he lived a few years longer, I think he would have gotten Monaco ready for democracy. Even if it was against his own understanding of his role. But unlike Albert, Rainier always thought of his country, his people and what was good for them. He took his responsibilities seriously and he saw that his son did not. ALbert behaved better with Rainier still around. That's why rainier and others had hopes for him. But I think deep down Rainier knew that Albert would ruin everything. Well said, Paca!

A few days ago on Eringer (there have been a lot of trolls and nuts on there lately) a poster wrote that Rainier made a trip to see Caroline even though he was ill. The poster said there was another will. Now I know that sounds nuts, but on the other hand don't you just wonder if Rainier actually gave control of the cash to Caroline which would have reined in Albert? Makes you think even if it's a nutty scenario.

I don't know about a trip of Rainier or another will. It depends what date that is supposed to have happened. I know that Rainier was taken ill when near Paris at his hunting estate. Caro lived there, so they surely saw each other as she does hunt too and of course Rainier adored his grandkids. So it could very well be that they did discuss the future. I believe that was before the change of the constitution. I am sure that he discussed that with her before making the change. I think if Caro would have wanted the job then for herself, she could have pleaded her cause. But I think she reluctantly gave in to the possibility of ANdrea taking over. The majority of Rainiers possessions went to the state anyways. Albert received cashwise less then Caro as he got the use of the state possessions, but more then Steph. Albert got a lot less then he would have gotten, if he would have been a different person. Hence he got angry and sold heaps of his dads cars. I guess as ways of getting back at him. Funny thing is that it stopped when CW moved permanently to MC.

They will probably hide Grace's one because Cowan will paint Charlene just to look like Grace. Trash all around... Read my lips; WC portrait will of course be a take on Grace's portrait. That's what WC was hired for, to be a modern day Grace. We already know that the portrait will be a full length one (same like Grace's), so WC will be standing and IMO taking the same pose as Grace but maybe facing in other direction (depending on which side WC thinks is her "better side"). Dress will be a strapless, full length (of course), "mermaid" dress in light blue color. She will be wearing long white gloves and will have her "ocean" tiara on. She will try her best to have her most "angelic" look on. Her face will be totally bottoxed, her lips will be freshly plumed up, and her cheeks will be swollen to the max by fillers. The Palace might require from the artist to paint an halo over her head, just to show that WC is better then Grace....Wait and see....

Well, the guy didn't mean it, but it's one of the best representations of Monaco's situation right now (and the guy could pass as Albert, wich is creepy too)

I have literary lost track of how many people have said this to me when they have been shown photos of her.. Ugly !!!! She has NO international appeal and never will.

WOW, paca, your posting really sums up the entire misery! bold theory that for the principality's best-possible future he even might have chosen democracy over monarchy. a pity he obviously started way too late going that direction. sometimes wonder how things would have evolved if grace hadn't died that early. ONE thing is for sure: there would not be a pile of plastic in the castle today ;D. another karma for you.

Yes his art looks pretty kitsch. Romance novel art is a perfect description, or to be kind to Grace, perhaps a cinema poster. I never understood why he was selected for Grace's portrait to begin with unless he was the "go to" guy among her friends.

How much do you wanta bet that in the portrait of MS CW she will be wearing her "TIARA AND NECKLACE". I mean, how could she not!? I also wonder if she's made a deal to take the portrait with her as part of her parting gift - they certainly won't keep it hanging anywhere where anyone can see it after she's gone. Then again, they may not allow her to have it - I doubt they will give her the tiara and necklace - but then again, that's a little added price to get rid of her.

The idea of a portrait of Charlene there truly makes me ill--everyone knows she is a fake and a phony--princess for hire. It makes a total mockery of any family history or idea of royalty there. Is this really what Albert wants to be about and remembered for? This creepy telationship and fake marriage with fake princess! This is the kind of thing that really wants to make anyone stay far away from Monaco, and that is sad. Not only has Albert not been able to attract interest in Monaco with his fake phony woman by his side, he reallhy does not know how many peoply who were once fans and actually patrons of Monaco that he's truly lost when he brought in Charlene. This girl will never be princess of Monaco, in people's minds, and before he does all he can in trying to support that idea, he better remember he is only fueling he in the er more when he no doubt will be in the public relations battle he is going to be fighting before long. He has already let her get sympathy as the wronged princess, forced to marry him! . The fact that no one is interested enough to care and isn't paying attention is his saving grace.
