This thread is dedicated to news, information, and of course your opinion about the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, which was founded in May 2006 (see the foundation's website for more info) I decided to set up a Foundation whose purpose is to protect the environment and to encourage sustainable development (...). By definition, this is a common global challenge that requires urgent and concrete action in response to three major environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity and water.

I always thought that this Foundation showed Albert getting ahead of himself. He had only been Prince a few years when it was established. It is clear that he should have been spending his time learning how to run a country. Albert is over 50 years old and he has known since birth that he would one day be the ruling Prince, but he has yet to spend the time and effort to actually run Monaco and try to make it a great place to live. And he flies around the world talking about the environment, but isn't Monaco one of the most over-built places in the world. Maybe if he stayed home and worked to make Monaco more environmentally-conscious, this would be a showcase for the world. Where I come from, he is all hat and no cattle.

Forget "a few years". Just over one year (June 2006). ETA: sorry, May 2006, it's worse. I always thought his north pole trip was some sort of justification for his foundation. To add a veneer of credibility to it and to give him something to talk about in his (PAF) speeches. Oh and an excuse to make more fun trips, like the one to the south pole. What I really don't get in all of this is the timing. If he cared, I would have expected him to start this foundation a lot earlier. Environment, green and all that stuff had already been invented some serious time ago. Didn't Rainier agree with it? Was it his fun trips or with the idea of the foundation in general? Or did Albert wait until he was souvereign so it was more impressive? Or did he have to wait until he was souvereign so he could force the state to cough up most of the initial capital?

the foundation is an account that is given to people who want sth from Albert. That's all there is to it. All of the families charities are working that way. If you want citizenship, they tell you how much you have to pay to get it. Only a small percentage of what they receive is actually passed on to projects and people in need. And that goes for Amade as well as fight aids or Princess Grace foundation. Just like the Automobile club does not open his books to anyone but the prince, neither do any of the charities run by the family. you wouldn't show anyone your private bank account either, would you?

Maybe I'm naive but I believe that Albert opened this foundation because he really wanted to help environment and people who e.g need access to clean, drinking water. It's so sad that this foundation has become something else. Another proof IMO that Albert is a sucker.

the only thing that needs cleaning is the money going into the foundation. I doubt that it was ever intended for anything else. Albert has never been serious about his environmental views. He took it up as sth that became fashionable, granting a positive image and it was simply the only thing left for him to do as he had proofed to be incompetent in everything else he was boasting about as he took over.

knowing what a corrupt and venal person FAtAl is, i'm sure the foundation is nothing but a bribe and money laundering operation. JMO but he's got some bad KARMA coming and i can't wait to see what it is and the sooner the better!
must be nice to have no authority that can audit or punish you. i wonder if he takes American or English money in contributions if they can investigate his corruption?

just on a side note, the Gramaglia family is big in the real estate business in Monaco. They do real estate, real estate insurance, building management etc. bit of a clash of interest to have some one of that family do the town planning. And the solar panels are long overdue. Albert promised 35000sqm right after he took over and nothing has been done. He wanted to have them on every building in MC. This is a joke, especially getting people to come and write about this. There are people in Germany that have micro power plants at home and never have the press at home to report on them. If this is his green thinking then I have to let him know that a lot of my parents neighbors had these installed 3à years ago and we don't even get much sun in the north of Germany. If he was wise he would have gotten years ago all into developing a strategy for clean energy in Monaco. Instead the smeg signed a contract for many years to continue business with EDF and receive nuclear power. Of course that makes Monaco dependent on France and garanties France a sure client. They don't bother to secure though that there are no power fall outs, which we had frequently in the area as there is only one line to provide power into the entire region. so if anything goes wrong, it is lights out. Albert is an idiot an still 2à years at least behind the development in clean energy.

I do not know if this is the right thread. Here an article in Nice-Matin www.nicematin.com/article/derniere-minute-monaco/ecologie-le-gouvernement-monegasque-passe-a-zero-emission-de-co2Ecology: the Monegasque government offsets its CO2 emissionsThe Government of Monaco and the Albert II Foundation on Tuesday signed a partnership contract with a duration of 4 years to neutralize the environmental impact of travel to the International Department of External Relations. Zero CO2 emissions, not quite Albert II Foundation considers emissions of greenhouse gases generated by the movement of External Relations (air transfers and field) and offer to compensate by buying carbon credits obtained through projects to reduce emissions. If voluntary offsets for air travel or events had already been undertaken between the Government and the Foundation Prince Albert II, this type of initiative is a first contract. _______ Does that mean that all the jet trips of PA had a carbon offset? In the what, why not reporting in large, bold and capitalized on the Foundation website or on the website of the palace or government? Lack of communication or the infos are here and I misread? The problem is that if the details are not there in these websites, it was a source of criticism against him and his work for ecology... contradiction because of the lot of trips in jet (CO2) and he looks like an "écotartuffe" (like greenwashing). No credibility and bad work of communication. Good "wish" (bonne volonté), good boy but team with broken arms... Despairing...

I do not know if this is the right thread. Thanks for the article Viviane. Of course this is the appropriate thread - anything about PAII Foundation is appropriate for this thread. Albert and Charlene jump in their plane to go to any sporting event for a few hours around the world. Albert uses his jet like the average person uses his/her car. Carbon offset in Monaco DOES NOT apply to Albert personally. I'm sure Albert will say that his is buying offsets for his footprints - and then will continue to fly his private jet as often as he likes.

Another Eringer find - New Grief:
BRUNO MANSER FUND, BASEL / SWITZERLAND
30 June 2011 – for immediate release
Monaco’s Prince Albert II asked to pay back dodgy Malaysian donation
Did Sarawak Chief Minister pay for Malaysian First Lady’s EUR 100,000 gift to the Prince Albert Foundation?
Bruno Manser Fund, the Swiss rainforest advocacy group, is calling on Monaco ruler Prince Albert II to pay back a controversial 100,000 euro donation he received last year from Malaysia’s First Lady, Rosmah Mansor, for his environmental foundation, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
Albert was given the cheque by Rosmah in August 2010 at an "Islamic Fashion Show" in Monaco, which was sponsored by the Sarawak government. During the ceremony, Rosmah was accompanied by Sarawak Chief Minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud ("Taib"), and her husband, the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.
"The origin of the 100,000 euros is very unclear, and the fund should thus not have been accepted by Prince Albert’s foundation", the Bruno Manser Fund stated on Thursday. "We suggest that Albert pays back the money to the Penan, Malaysia’s most marginalized people, in order to support their struggle to defend their rainforests against logging."
The Bruno Manser Fund suspects that the 100,000-euro cheque might have been funded by Taib, who maintains close ties with the Monaco ruler. Taib is the main culprit in the destructive logging of Sarawak’s tropical rainforests, one of the world’s most biodiversity-rich habitats.
"Albert’s relationship with Taib raises a lot of questions", the Bruno Manser Fund said. "Why is Albert, who is fond of his green image, associating himself with one of the world’s worst environmental criminals?"
In 2008, Albert visited Sarawak with one of Monaco’s top private bankers and London property tycoon Achilleas Kallakis. Last year, Kallakis, a former member of the Prince Albert II Foundation, was charged with £61m of fraud in one of the most serious property frauds in UK history.
The Bruno Manser Fund is afraid that Monaco’s banks might be administering significant Taib corruption assets.

If you check my post in the "albert advisors and friends" on May 14, 2011, post # 20, I pointed out PA's connections to the taib family and the whole question of destroying the rainforest in Malaysia. I even asked Eringer sometime ago whether he knew something about PA's connection to the Taib family.
