There wasn't one yet, but sport is mentioned in the description so I made a thread for it. Random and various sporty things in MC.
Soccer: after camping out in the last three places of the league for most of the season, they are suddenly winning and currently in 14th place (of 20). Seems to be the usual MO for some reason, the same thing happened the last few years. The exception being last year when they actually got relegated to the second league.
Tennis: Davis Cup, the event visit so many times by the rather undynamic and unsporty pair for promotional purposes.
Mid February saw the first round of the European/African group II. Monaco lost to Ukraine with a nice round 5 - 0. The play-offs will take place the coming weekend against Morocco and in Morocco (Casablanca). The losers play in group III next year, the winners get to stay in group II.

Yes, you're right Grimnir, we should probably have a thread since both Charlene and Albert seem more interested in wanting to support Rugby and everything South African or Charlene's faux interest in all that only highlights her! I can't imagine that makes either one of them very popular with their home crowd, since Monaco has a "soccer team", and not a rugby team to support. Charlene only has a pseudo feigned interest anyway in anything South African, neither her or her family wasted any time "escaping" it...her own doppelgangers words! I thought "she wanted the job bad?" ;D Charlene and Albert has done nothing but support SA since the marriage, a place she doesn't and hasn't given a flying !@#$ for, ever! Read her old interviews--she seemed to think SA existed only to support and promote her....as she still does! ;D But since Albert seems to have turned into the consort of course that's how it's been since he involved himself with her long ago. Who was it that said "Charlene tells Albert what she wants and what she doesn't want!" And this was a quote by someone trying to sell her! ;D I don't understand how Albert expects anyone to respect him when he has let this ignorant obnoxious woman and her family wipe her feet on him...and he doesn't even love her . I will never understand why he anchored himself to this moron. I'm sorry I don't mean to turn this into another Charlene thread, but this is how much she negatively effects everything. I'm serious all they talk about is Charlene's own faux sports interest, that have nothing to do with Monaco. I agree about the tennis interest too in Monaco where of course Charlene looks bored to death. I know Albert supports tennis and is a pretty good tennis player himself. I think Monaco has also been home to a lot of Pro Tennis players. These are both sports that both of them should be talking about and promoting, not Rugby and cricket.

I'm with you on the negativity that seems to contaminate everything when cw shows her face. So far, the only sport that cw seems to like is rugby as far as I can tell. Somehow that bothers me. IMO she doesn't even like to watch swimming. Whether that is because there are too many people around that can "unmask" her, or because the most of them are better than she ever was, or because of unhappy memories, I don't know. Anyway, back on topic: Morocco - MC stands 1 all after the first day. Which is odd, because the detailed results list a 2-0 score in favour of Monaco. France - USA at the MCCC is a draw at one all too. Weird to hold the match there. It is officially France of course, but it is practically annexed by Monaco and of course the home of the Monaco (!) tennis tournament. I had expected Roland Garros or any place anywhere else but Roquebrune.

Davis Cup update: Monaco won 3-2 and will be playing the first round in group II. Probably some time February next year.
France wasn't lucky on former Monaco territory and lost 2-3 to the US.
ASM won last Friday (again!) and is currently eleventh (of twenty) in the ranking.

Usain Bolt will attent de MC athletic meeting on July 20th. Makes big headlines so far.
Is anyone interested in the umpteenth ASM soap? Its trainer Simone has allegedly made racist remarks to a Morrocan airport employee.

ASM won again last night in a 2-0 away game against FC Metz. Currently 9th in the league, still 6 games left 'til the end of the season. With 43 points, they have 19 points less than the no. 1 and only 6 points less than no. 5 in the league.
Up next week: a home game against Le Havre (currently 17th, you know, the place ASM has held for most of the season until the last month or so...).

The rather misnamed Monte Carlo tennis tournament takes place this week in Roquebrune ;D at the MCCC. Monaco's two players (Balleret and Lisnard) got a wildcard and lost in the first round. Lisnard has teamed up with a Frenchie and got a wildcard for the doubles. They have not yet played their first match and are still in the tournament. Results and news can be seen here: www.monte-carlorolexmasters.com/, including a pic of Albert and plastic-fantastic barbie who apparently have handed out a medal. Which begs the question: how many royals does it take to hand out a medal?

Lisnard and Clement lost their doubles match and as far as I can see all Monegasques are now out of the tournament.
Albert seems to have developed an affection for rugby, he will be attending the Toulon - Castres match in Toulon on Saturday.

A week ago, ASM won their home game resulting in a rise to the ninth place. Yesterday they ended their winning spree and lost to Clermont (4th) and dropping to 11th place. Tuesday will see them play at home against Istres (8th).
After that four matches left until the end of the season. After some lowranking teams there are now a few highranking teams coming up, including the current second: Reims (coming Friday). Even if they lose all their remaining matches, I don't think it's possible for ASM to end up in the bottom three and having to play in Ligue 3 next year.

Last soccer game of the season last night. ASM won their away game against Boulogne and ended up eight in the league. So next season Ligue 2 again for them. (They have this smiley anyway, I might as wel use it to celebrate the end of the season).

Monaco is steadily getting rid of its non-performers - well except the most important one - Albert and his non-performing useless bride. IS there anyone in Monaco see a problem with holding everyone accountable for their poor results, bad actions and bad decisions except Albert?

Better be careful what you wish for. Those booted-out non-performers might be replaced by someone worse. ASM got sold to the Russians and I'm not sure they are better off now. It hasn't improved their results so far.
BTW, I just heard or read a theory that claimed that continuity with a soccer team is better than ditching the trainer every other month. Serious research showed that the team did better for a short time after the sacking of the trainer, but not for any lenght of time. A team that had to make do with the same trainer for a long time, through good and bad times, eventually performed better, seen over a longer period. I wish Monaco (the country) would practise this for a change.
With ASM a lot has happened in the recent years. I lost track of the many coaches ASM has had. Marco Simone was coach for less than a year:

they were getting better in the second half of the season. So in that respect they would have been better off trying to keep the coach and the majority of players and work with them. Madrid is an example of how not to build a team. They are the club who invested most money. I believe it has been about a billion. And what have they achieved? They certainly did not get their moneys worth, but they have the best players in the world. Only they don't get them to play as a team. Greece had, when they won with Rehagel the Eurochampionship, only mediocre players, but he managed to get them play as a team and play a game that would work the best with each players qualities. And they won over some of the best teams in the world. In Germany FC Munich is the equivalent to Madrid. Most expensive players, but they won not a single cup in the entire season. Who won the league? Dortmund, a club that used struggle, but now has a coach who fits the team and who has fun doing his job and passes that on to his players. A few years back people only knew the coach as commentator on other peoples matches. Nowadays he doesn't have time for that.

It's Simones first job as coach. He only started in 2011. It has been pretty much downhill since Deschamps left. And that was when Assbert took over....coincidence?

Monaco always play better in the second half of the season. It is something with the draw. They end up playing the bottom half of the draw's teams in the second part of the season. It was like that the last two years before last year (when they relegated) and even the last season I believe they had a better second half. 2009-2010 saw ASM camping out at the bottom of the first league for the first half of the season and I was already waiting for the relegation. Until after Christmas when they kept on winning and they ended up 8th place at the end of the season.

From the Monaco Matin: Usain Bolt will not participate in the meeting Herculis Friday, July 20.
Victim of a small muscular alert after recent selections Jamaican sprinter was thought better not to run from the Louis II, in order to preserve for the London Olympics. The plateau of the appointment of Monaco, the last major competition before the Olympics, none the less rich and dense.
